The Convention photo set for Ryuge Kisaki cosplay from Blue Archive is finally ready. For this shoot at the Chengdu Worldline Animation and Comic Exhibition, in order to capture the character's temperament, I specially prepared this ensemble combining a dark blue jacquard embroidered cheongsam with a pinstriped duster coat. Substantial thought went into the fabric selection: the cheongsam features subtle jacquard weaves, while the golden auspicious beast motifs reflect differently under various lighting angles, providing a solid, premium texture. The high side slit design elongates leg lines beautifully, though it naturally requires careful control over the range of movement.
To enhance the layered dimension and sharp, authoritative presence of the styling, I paired it with black Stockings featuring geometric line patterns and black high heels. The geometric, modern pattern of these Stockings formed a striking visual dialogue with the vintage cheongsam. The black square briefcase held in my hand was a prop specially prepared to enrich the character lore, featuring finely crafted metallic buckle hardware. For the wig, I kept her classic twin buns adorned with blue butterfly hair accessories and elongated side bangs; the makeup intensified eye contours with elongated, winged eyeliner to faithfully reproduce her cool, aloof, and commanding dominance. Before heading out, I repeatedly adjusted the wig in front of the mirror to ensure the bangs and side locks framed my face nicely on camera.
The night lighting at the Chengdu Worldline Animation and Comic Exhibition was exceptionally crisp and clear, perfectly complementing this deep-toned color scheme. While the outdoor venue of the anime expo was crowded at night, the circular bokeh lights in the background were fortunately stunning. Throughout the shoot, I continuously alternated between standing and seated poses, utilizing the flowing drape of the coat to inject dynamic movement into the frame. For instance, standing with legs crossed or lifting one leg while holding the coat better showcased the cheongsam's hem and leg contours. Despite the wide range of motion, I took thorough precautions beforehand by wearing safety shorts and anti-exposure undergarments, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the character without any worries of wardrobe malfunctions.
Outdoor location shoots heavily test lighting management and coordination with the photographer. We brought a small stepladder as an auxiliary prop; for seated poses, utilizing the stepped elevation created dynamic diagonal compositions, infusing visual tension into the frames. The nighttime bokeh added rich depth to the dark backdrop. Although walking long in high heels was exhausting, I persevered for the final visual payoff. Throughout the session, I constantly contemplated how to amplify the garment's distinct traits through body language—subtle gestures like running fingers through my hair or tugging at coat cuffs were all calculated to evoke an aloof, subtly aggressive aura.
Cosplay is never just about putting on an outfit; it's about conveying a character's soul through expressions and physical presence. From early costume selection and wig styling to on-site communication with the photographer regarding lighting and angles, every single step requires personal dedication. I am very satisfied with how these photos turned out and hope everyone enjoys this Ryuge Kisaki cosplay showcase!
