On the occasion of the Honkai: Star Rail 3rd Anniversary, this set of Kafka cosplay photoshoots has finally completed its shooting and post-processing. From costume pattern making to prop production, and then to on-set pose design and lighting arrangement in the studio, every link has been repeatedly refined, striving to present that calm and unhurried state of the character in the game's storyline.

Let's first talk about the layers of the costume. The white inner high-collared shirt sets the tone for the entire upper body, with the collar stiffened to maintain a crisp look. The black short coat worn outside is a crucial layer, featuring highly intricate white grid patterns on the back, which is one of the character's core visual elements. The lining of the coat is made of a vibrant purplish-red color; when shooting dynamic movements, as the hem of the coat flies up, the color contrast turns out brilliant, which is also a prominent highlight of this styling in studio shoots. The shoulders and chest are paired with dark brown leather straps. These leather and metal fasteners present excellent texture and luster under hard light, enhancing the physical presence of the clothing.

The clothing design for the lower body coordinates with the character's movement logic in its tailoring. The dark brown leather shorts carry a certain thickness, while the bright pink straps on the thighs are the visual highlight of the entire lower body. To prevent the straps from slipping when posing, snaps were fixed internally, which both guarantees a natural posture and avoids revealing any flaws. Paired with the pink tights, it presents a color transition from dark to bright under the studio lighting; this color-blocking match carries a high level of recognizability on camera. The black chunky-heeled short boots on the feet are an important tool for enhancing leg proportions, and the white cross-strap details on the upper shoe surface were completely replicated, perfect for providing a stable support point when shooting sword-drawing or crouching with guns.

Speaking of props, this time we prepared a silver pistol, a black submachine gun, and a long sword. The metallic texture and painting of the prop guns underwent a color-separation treatment; holding them gives a certain weight, which helps quickly enter the character state. In the crouching posture with the guns, to match the low center of gravity of the character, I tried a cross-legged arrangement, stretching the front leg straight out while the back leg supports the center of gravity. This posture can display the leg lines and front details of the boots beautifully. On the other hand, the sword-swinging action needs to coordinate with wind power, letting the hem of the coat float toward the diagonal rear to enhance the dynamic feel of the frame.

In terms of makeup and hair, the reddish-pink wig was trimmed with sufficient layers, especially the length of the hair ends which falls right below the coat collar, generating a natural fluttering following the body's rotation during actions. Although the black bow hair accessory on top of the head is small, it perfectly restores the character's overall head styling. The eye makeup is paired with light-colored contact lenses and pink-toned eyeshadow, complemented by black eyeliner to elongate the eye contours, making the gaze look sharp and focused.

For the photographic environment, a simple purple-pink gradient background was selected without adding overly cluttered scene elements, aiming to concentrate the visual focus on the color pairing of this character itself. The lighting mainly adopts hard light from the direct side, which highlights the material differences among leather, metal, and fabric. During the shoot, I minded the bodily extension of the character very much. Every single image from this cosplay photoshoot emphasizes displaying the character's composure while also melting in the specific commemorative meaning of this 3rd anniversary milestone. On the basis of guaranteeing restoration accuracy, this costume also took into account the actual wearing comfort and range of motion; basically, none of the joint movements were constrained after putting it on, providing excellent comfort for this anime-style photography shoot.
