Summer's high temperatures and the live environment are indeed quite a test for outdoor photography in cosplay costumes, but the moment the lens focuses, feeling the character's aura, all fatigue seems temporarily thrown aside. This set of Genshin Impact cosplay photos didn't choose an exquisite studio, but instead opted for this outdoor venue with some dirt and construction marks.
On makeup and hair, details try as much as possible to stay close to the character's agility. The orange wig was trimmed and paired with the beast ear decorations on the head to build up overall vitality. The butterfly-shaped collar at the neck is one of the visual focal points, combined with the simple off-the-shoulder top and white wrapped fabric, making it look cool yet layered in such hot summer weather. The waist area used red tie-straps and a stacking of multiple fabrics, which not only raised the waistline but also made movements look more natural during transitions. The red-black-white-blue color scheme is very vibrant, plus the fingerless gloves, making it convenient to hold equipment while extending the character's efficient trait.
The sunshine on the shooting day was very abundant, and the light and shadow effects of the raw photos turned out even more atmospheric than imagined. Those orange-red plastic construction barriers in the background were originally somewhat cluttered everyday elements, but after being blurred by the large aperture, they turned into pure color blocks, visually echoing wonderfully with the vast area of light blue sky and the orange-yellow primary tones of the costume. A lot of times, a character doesn't necessarily need a gorgeous and pristine environment to yield great photos; locations with a real-life atmosphere instead make the character appear much more vivid.
Compared to a completely solemn replication, I prefer showing the character's relaxed side before the lens. For instance, simply throwing a peace sign, or casually sticking out my tongue for a snapshot, not holding a specific weapon or firework prop but holding an everyday phone instead—this state hovering between the character and myself fits perfectly with the casual and natural feeling needed for summer. The photographer kept guiding me to adjust angles, searching for the split second when light landed on the hair and neck; these inadvertent snapshots are often the most vivid.
If everyone looks closely, you'll find that the fabric of this costume is actually quite thick, featuring multi-layered stacking and accessories. Standing outdoors near high noon for just a little while easily makes the forehead sweat, requiring constant adjustments to the wig and makeup. However, true love probably means embracing these tiny imperfections. Chatting after putting down the camera, eating a popsicle, blowing in the hot summer wind, and looking at the raw photos just taken, my mood felt exceptionally liberated.
Summer is a season belonging to bustling noise and fireworks, and the character Yoimiya inherently carries that scorching warmth. Bringing such a personality design into real time to interpret her cheerfulness was my original intention. This outdoor photography session didn't try too hard to force poses; instead, it captured a real, lively, slightly tempered yet highly approachable image. The color tones of the final photos look very comfortable, toning down the overly sharp colors, highly fitting the temperature of this season. I hope this summer time captured under the lens can truly transmit some relaxed and joyful emotions to everyone.
