[Lynette Cosplay] Xi'an Dreamland Custom Design Magic Cat: Full Record of Convention Strolling & Check-in

The final D3 day of the Xi'an Dreamland anime convention has successfully come to a close, and this time I chose to appear in a custom fan design version of Lynette. There's a saying: "If no one pampers you, go to a convention; after strolling through, your whole body will ache." This experience was truly a realistic realization of that. However, walking through the venue as this uniquely styled magician cat yielded a complex and deeply fulfilling emotional experience.

Many people might be curious why I chose to do a "custom fan design" version of Lynette. When it comes to this character in Genshin Impact, her trait of quietly supporting behind the scenes with a touch of laziness yet extreme professionalism as a magician has always fascinated me. However, the vast majority of cosplays at conventions are highly accurate official versions, so doing a custom design meant integrating my own understanding of the character's disposition for a secondary creation. I was actually very nervous because I anticipated early on that "after dressing up beautifully, not many sweeties would recognize me." Sure enough, while walking around the expo, although many passersby praised it as pretty, they didn't seem to immediately recognize who I was cosplaying. That tiny sense of disappointment definitely existed.

But rather than dwelling on feeling down, I'd like to talk more about my thoughts on hair and makeup styling this time. First was the choice of wig—I opted for a silver-gray gradient short wig and handled the bangs' layering very carefully, hoping to preserve the original character's fluffiness and airiness. I specifically designed diagonal braids on both sides and cat-ear styling on top, combined with a huge black-and-pink dual-color bow to max out the "magic cat" motif. For makeup, I felt Lynette's soul lies in her eyes. I chose purple contact lenses, which gave the character a mysterious yet slightly distant demeanor. The eyeshadow wasn't heavy or dramatic; instead, I used a tender pink eyeshadow base plus a very thin, naturally flicked eyeliner with subtly curled eyelashes to make her gaze look more agile.

For the most important part, the costume, I put in the most effort. The chest area used playing cards (Ace of Spades and Jack of Spades) as the visual core, combined with a classic black velvet lapel collar and bow tie. The black, white, and pink color scheme not only suited the custom design's needs but also preserved the crisp, neat visual feel of a magician. Small pink bows hanging on both sides, along with white wristguards, made the entire outfit look even more refined in its details.

Although doing a custom design comes with the trouble of being "too niche to be recognized," I also saw many breathtakingly great works at this Xi'an Dreamland convention. Seeing other fellow fans' exquisite styling and heartfelt photoshoot master pieces, that atmosphere of mutual appreciation and encouragement immediately smoothed over my small frustration of not being recognized. I realized that the essence of cosplay is expressing love for a character in one's own way. Even if this expression is custom-tailored, as long as I injected my understanding of Lynette into every detail, it was a success. After all, being in the same space with everyone at a grand convention is an extremely joyful thing in itself.

Additionally, I have to vent about the physical exertion of attending the convention. Saying "your whole body aches after strolling" is not an exaggeration at all. After walking around for a day, not only did the soles of my feet protest, but even my knees and calves could hardly take it. But this is a necessary rite of passage for every convention.

Overall, although this attempt at custom Lynette cosplay was physically and mentally exhausting, it was equally rewarding with a immense sense of satisfaction. Next time I cosplay Lynette from Genshin Impact, I should probably stick to the official default outfit—after all, that's the "safe card" for everyone to recognize at a glance. But regardless, this wonderful memory of the magic cat will stay forever in the halls of Xi'an Dreamland.
