In this Takanashi Rikka cosplay Headcanon / Original setting photoshoot, the main focus was recreating the character's distinctive eye traits through makeup. Matching the purple hair and Heterochromia makeup look, I invested significant effort into adjusting the contrasting shapes of both eyes. I used a teal-blue colored contact lens for the left eye and a golden-brown lens for the right eye; wearing two different lens colors during an indoor shoot meant lighting angles heavily affected the outcome. Outlining the lower eyelid, focusing on blush placement, and sweeping generous pink tones across the cheeks and nose tip helped recreate the delicate vulnerability of the setting. A red slash symbol was deliberately drawn on the forehead to enhance the theatrical drama. Although the purple wig is short, it has substantial volume and needed pressing down with hands during posing, so the photo holding hair was actually a gesture to conceal the visual weight of the wig. For the outfit, I selected a collar with a black cat pattern and a white lace top—a combination that feels slightly more casual and textured for this Headcanon / Original setting while echoing the cute charm of the character.
During retouching, soft lighting effects were applied to retain the authentic texture of the makeup without overly erasing all imperfections. To be honest, Heterochromia makeup is very time-consuming, especially matching the curvature of false eyelashes across differing eye shapes, making the entire process quite intricate. Whether shooting on location or at home, varying light sources alter how eye makeup appears. This final photoshoot mainly prioritized overall ambiance, incorporating subtle Headcanon / Original setting adjustments based on my personal interpretation of the character. To mimic that signature pained expression while shooting, I relied on eye gaze concentration and subtle brow furrows without overexerting facial tension. The whole shoot required continuous head angle adjustments to make the Heterochromia eyes look lively and spirited on camera. A hydrating lip tint was applied to give the lips a plumper look, complementing the soft, cute Headcanon / Original setting vibe. Hair strands were carefully separated with a comb to avoid looking overly heavy in the frame.
In the final set, because the first image had a collage in the lower right corner that clashed with my preference for clean covers, I selected the second clean single shot as the cover. Without wearing stockings, conveying character emotions relied primarily on strong facial expressiveness. A lot of thought went into coordinating this Headcanon / Original setting outfit, fine-tuning jacket and collar details to make character traits stand out against indoor backdrops. The actual shoot wasn't long, but pre-shoot makeup took around two hours to achieve the intended effect. Considering viewer reception, I carefully reviewed the raw shots after wrapping up to find the one that best captured the character's essence. Compared to completely duplicating official art, these subtle Headcanon / Original setting tweaks make the character feel closer to one's personal perspective.
