[Takanashi Hoshino cosplay] Blue Archive Summer Swimsuit Shoot at the Water Park

For this shoot, I brought Takanashi Hoshino's swimsuit look to a water park. The overall concept was set around a summer vacation, aiming to capture the character's relaxed, laid-back side in the hot weather.

Pink wigs are notoriously prone to frizzing outdoors due to wind and humidity. Before getting into the water, I made sure to apply anti-frizz styling products and adjusted the placement of the side ponytail to keep it from looking messy while moving through the pool. The halo prop on my head was crafted from acrylic, which required finding the right angle under strong outdoor daylight to avoid harsh glare and overexposure. The pure white ruffled swimsuit looked very crisp and refreshing, but fabric tends to become slightly sheer when wet, so we took extensive precautions with lining and camera angles to ensure complete modesty.

Shooting in the water was far more demanding than on dry land. The water resistance meant every single motion required considerably more effort. For example, during water-splashing poses, the photographer looked for angles from the deck while I tried the movement repeatedly in the water to freeze the exact moment the spray caught the light. Making hand-heart gestures also required maintaining balance against the water's surface tension. Every time I stepped out of the pool, I had to quickly blot away droplets with tissues and touch up the makeup, since ruined foundation is nearly impossible to salvage cleanly in post. Alternating between cool water and blazing sun was physically exhausting as well.

After getting out of the water, we took another set on the rattan lounge chairs by the poolside. To highlight the elongated lines of the legs, the photographer experimented with several setups, ultimately settling on a slightly lower angle. Clear sunglasses served as a fantastic prop—they not only enriched the styling, but shielded my eyes under the intense sunlight to prevent frequent blinking. The pink-and-white swim ring was picked specifically to complement the white swimsuit, creating a cohesive color palette with the pink wig. Using vending machines and metal railings in the background added everyday texture, giving the photos a stronger narrative feel beyond simple pool close-ups.

As a cosplayer, getting into character is just as vital as the external styling. In canon, Takanashi Hoshino carries an easygoing, languid charm while remaining dependable at her core, so I tried to keep my posture and expressions relaxed with subtle eye control. Although the shooting schedule was relatively brief, it demanded constant vigilance over prop integrity, makeup cleanliness, and natural posing. Water parks are noisy and crowded, requiring us to wrap up sequences swiftly in quiet corners, which put our teamwork to the test.

Even though my body was exhausted after the shoot, seeing the final images harmoniously blend summer coolness with the character's signature charm made every bit of energy spent worthwhile. Outdoor location shoots like this always build valuable experience, whether it comes to handling weather shifts or managing unexpected surprises.
