Summer is coming to an end, and this is my first and also last swimsuit set of the year (?). Actually, this project was delayed for a long time due to various reasons. Seeing the weather getting colder day by day, I finally managed to shoot Seia's summer swimsuit outfit from Blue Archive right before autumn fully sets in, managing to catch the tail end of summer.
When preparing this styling, I focused on highlighting a bright summer feel. Seia's original character design carries some mysterious and quiet temperament, but since it's a swimsuit, I wanted the overall atmosphere to be more lively. Therefore, in the color matching, a lot of bright yellow and white were used, paired with a red choker as a visual pop. That loose light-yellow outerwear is the finishing touch; I deliberately let it half-slip and hang on my arms, which not only reveals the shoulder and neck lines, but also provides more dynamism and layering when posing.
The headwear is both the focus and the difficulty. For the iconic blonde twin-tails, to fit the character's feel, I deliberately grew the bangs long to cover the right eye. As for the pair of fluffy animal ears, to make them look natural and three-dimensional in front of the lens, a fixed structure was specially built inside, and their state had to be monitored from every angle during the shoot. The transparent yellow sun hat worn on the head was also meant to add more layers to the overall styling.
In terms of props, the transparent yellow swim ring with sequins is extremely eye-catching, looking sparkling against the pure white background. Paired with the toy water gun in hand and the little yellow ducks scattered on the ground, the entire scene feels like a snapshot by the pool on a summer afternoon. For pose direction, I chose a kneeling-sitting posture, which not only showcases the leg lines well, but also lowers the overall center of gravity, making one look more petite and cute. Poses like pointing the water gun at the lens or holding the brim of the hat are all attempts to create a playful sense of interaction with the camera.
The studio lighting adopted very soft and even lighting, removing excess shadows and making the overall picture look extremely clean and translucent. This solid-color background actually tests the character's expressiveness greatly, so I used the wrinkles of the outerwear and the arc of the swim ring to enrich the composition. Although it was a bit cold during the shoot and the water gun was filled with water, seeing that energetic summer feel in the final photos gave me a real sense of accomplishment. Let's treat this set of photos as the best farewell gift to this summer.
