[Xiaowei cosplay] Cat-eared Xiaowei in the water town of Wuzhen

My understanding of Xiaowei extends beyond a mere alluring, demonic presence; she is an embodiment of a soul yearning desperately for pure love and spiritual resonance. When preparing this cosplay work, I spent an immense amount of time contemplating how to balance such complexity through visual language. For the costume selection, rather than opting for traditional, heavy silhouettes, I chose this light, sheer, ancient-style gown woven in shades of cyan-blue and soft pink. The tie-dyed gradient patterns on the gauze surface feature exquisite layering, radiating a translucent clarity under Wuzhen's natural sunlight, with billowing sleeves that naturally evoke an ethereal ambiance as I walked. The neckline was cut into a wide, off-the-shoulder drape that softly reveals the collarbones and neckline; this effortless negative space, in my view, communicates a dangerous yet captivating allure far better than overt exposure.

The hair accessories and makeup were another aspect of this shoot I was deeply pleased with. To echo the concept of cat-eared Xiaowei, I specifically shaped rounded cat-ear hair buns into the updo. The ornaments adorning them combined pink and blue blossoms, pearls, and metallic tassels, preserving youthful daintiness while adding a touch of mystical, fairy-like splendor. For the makeup, I avoided overly harsh contouring, opting for a clean, luminous, fair base while focusing on blending the eye makeup and blush. Winging out the outer corners of the eyes brought out a subtle demonic edge, yet when facing the camera, I deliberately kept my eyes wide to capture the innocent vulnerability of a small creature. This visual paradox aligned seamlessly with the character's intrinsic duality.

Choosing Wuzhen as the shoot location was a genuinely harmonious decision. The waterways, wooden railings, mottled white walls, and carved lattice windows serve as a magnificent natural studio in their own right. The sunlight on the day of the shoot was wonderful, with glistening water reflections dancing across my body in harmony with the gentle breeze, making me feel utterly submerged in this Jiangnan water-town dream. As a cosplayer who frequently shoots outdoors, I know that the most vital rule of on-location shoots is harmonizing with the environment. For example, when leaning against the wooden railings, I consciously relaxed my shoulders and neck to let my body take on a natural, indolent grace instead of rigidly holding a pose. When the sunlight felt harsh, casting my gaze gently downward helped craft a quiet, vulnerable sense of contemplation.

I have always believed that role-playing is not merely slipping into a costume and standing there in full makeup; it is about inhabiting the character's underlying emotional logic. The line from the description, 'My love is fervent for anyone I give it to,' gave me pause for a long time. In front of the camera, whether gazing into the distance or looking directly into the lens, I sought to channel that reckless, all-or-nothing bravery into my eyes. In one shot where I sit at a table with hands loosely folded, I consciously relaxed my fingertips, pairing the softly draped neckline with a tender gaze to communicate the character's warmth and devotion. During the shoot, I also paused to wait for the breeze to flutter the blue hemline and long hair naturally, as these subtle dynamic details breathe true life into the frame. This is cat-eared Xiaowei in my heart: an added layer of vivacity and spirit nestled within the water town's gentle grace. I hope these images convey the exact emotions I felt while creating them.
