This Runami Yachiyo cosplay shoot was a deeply committed project. To fit the lore of crossing eight thousand years, a lot of groundwork went into everything from costumes and props to set design. First, regarding this Japanese style attire: the deep blue base combined with broad red color-blocking creates an intense visual impact. The bright blue diamond patterns on the outfit, along with the layered reveals of purple, cyan, and green at the skirt hem, faithfully recreate the character's signature color palette. For the lower half, I paired bright blue Stockings with white polka dots and yellow chunky-heeled Mary Janes; this contrasting color combination worked surprisingly well during the shoot.
Styling the wig was a focal point of this look. Long straight silver-white hair paired with two iconic ring-shaped hair accessories atop the head required extensive teasing, volumizing, and setting to achieve a natural yet dimensional silhouette. Combined with blue colored contacts and delicate eye makeup, I hoped to capture the character's true aura. As for props, that pink blowfish plushie was definitely the most frequently featured item—whether hugged to my chest or resting on my lap, it added a lively touch. Together with a pink-and-white oil-paper umbrella, a black-and-red folding fan, and a Japanese sake gourd, the scene's elements became wonderfully rich.
The shoot took place in a Japanese room featuring tatami mats, shoji sliding doors, and folding screens painted with cranes and ocean waves. The indoor lighting setup took considerable thought: utilizing the diffuse reflection of natural light filtering through the shoji doors, complemented by the warm fill light of lanterns, created the authentic ambiance of a traditional Japanese style space. For the outdoor scenes, the cherry blossom trees and white gravel ground also added plenty of vibrant life to the frame. I particularly love the shots sitting on the wooden veranda, where sunlight filtered through the cherry blossoms onto me, casting dappled light and shadow that felt remarkably authentic.
The equipment used for this shoot was a Sony A7R6 paired with a Sony FE 28-70mm F2 GM lens. This combination performed exceptionally well in complex lighting; the large F2 aperture guaranteed sufficient light intake in dim indoor conditions while delivering razor-sharp clarity, crisply preserving both fabric weaves and individual hair strands. The 28-70mm focal range was remarkably flexible for full-body shots and close-ups alike, allowing compositional adjustments without frequent repositioning. To achieve the ideal result, we transitioned between indoor and outdoor sets, constantly tweaking poses and prop positions—such as the optimal placement for the blowfish plushie or using the fan to partially shield lighting—all tested step by step. Though exhausting, seeing the finalized captures made every bit of effort worthwhile. Being able to deliver such a presentation stems from thorough advance preparations, and I hope this invitation spanning eight thousand years is fully conveyed through these images for Cosmic Princess Kaguya! and this Runami Yachiyo cosplay.
