[Xiao Wu cosplay] Soul Land: A Fated Vow, The Forest Spirit in the Night - Image 1

When shooting this Xiao Wu cosplay, I primarily wanted to recreate the character's serene demeanor in a nighttime forest. The skirt is crafted with an outer layer of purple gradient tulle supported by multiple inner crinoline layers underneath; you could hear the rustle with every step. Moving through the woods in such a voluminous skirt was indeed cumbersome, but I wore it nonetheless for the visual impact. The trees were white, and lighting the cherry blossom-like canopy above with cool light created a fantastic atmosphere. The glowing mushrooms on the ground were handmade props; their blue glow provided subtle ambient light in the dark, adding a rich touch of magical charm to the scene.

The wind was quite strong on the day of the shoot, which nicely billowed the skirt backward into an arch, though this posed quite a challenge for the photographer. Sha Chen kept firing the shutter to capture the flowing skirt and hair—I lost count of how many times I struck poses. The wig and rabbit ear props were pinned securely to my natural hair with steel clips, or else the wind would have dislodged them. The overall makeup avoided heavy tones, emphasizing eye contours and lip color for a more ethereal charm. To align with the character design, I chose White stockings and strappy boots, adjusting the thigh strap several times to ensure it neither pinched my leg nor slipped around.

Outdoor night lighting is a delicate technical task. To ensure even facial illumination without destroying the eerie blue tones of the background branches, several lights were set up and repositioned repeatedly. To capture the moment when the skirt was at its most expansive spread, I often had to jump or twirl repeatedly, staying in a focused state throughout. Stepping on grassy ground in high heels was slippery, requiring constant attention to footing safety. In post-processing, we mainly refined the translucency of the tulle skirt and enhanced the mushroom halos slightly to make the glow appear more organic.

I have always felt that a character's charm relies heavily on details. This photoshoot experience was deeply engaging—from styling prep to on-site coordination, every step deepened my understanding of the character. Though exhausting throughout, the resulting photos faithfully conveyed the fated ambiance I wanted to express, making it a very satisfying shoot.

The collaborating photographer was exceptionally dedicated; the angles and lighting he prepared resonated perfectly with the character's persona. When planning beforehand, we decided on Night photography to temper the bright white canopy, creating a contrast between the purple skirt and the white branches that naturally highlighted the subject. The grass and moss underfoot were actually prickly, but no sacrifice was spared for the final visual. When the wind blew, petals drifted down naturally, and the lens caught those fleeting details. Bright tones against a dark background carried immense tension, while I maintained emotional composure during shooting to channel the character's melancholic and devoted nature.

Speaking of the shoot, wearing such a thick layered skirt was actually quite warm, yet the chilly nighttime wind brought sudden shivers. Because the train was so long, walking required immense caution to avoid stepping on the hem. To hold that reaching gesture, I stood holding my arm up in place for ages until it grew sore, just to get one perfect shot. Color grading in post-processing took considerable thought: the blue mushrooms and purple gown harmonized beautifully, with the overall cool palette bringing out a touch of warmth on the subject for a tranquil, profound aesthetic. The crew also worked tremendously hard hauling props; those powered mushroom props required wiring or batteries and took serious effort to position in the foliage. I truly experienced the grueling effort behind high-tier cosplay shoots—it takes not only meticulous costume preparation, but also seamless team synergy to produce stellar images. Behind every shutter click lies the entire team's dedication to character fidelity. Releasing this set today feels like a rewarding tribute to all that perseverance.
