Before heading out for this shoot with rich Western cowboy style elements, I was actually a bit nervous. The combination of black-and-white cow print and leather straps is very unique. With a high neck, off-the-shoulder design, and split long sleeves, high sun protection was required during outdoor shooting. But for the sake of beauty, I had to bite the bullet and endure the blazing sun. For the bottom, I paired it with distressed blue raw-edge denim shorts. The thin black chain around the waist and the wide belt with an exaggerated gold round buckle were the soul of the entire look, instantly pulling up the sharp, effortless vibe of a Western gal. There were also the holster and boots; although the prop gun wasn't heavy, wearing all this gear in outdoor temperatures took quite a bit of physical stamina.
To match this look, I chose silver-white braided hair for the wig, weaving a thick braid on the side. The wig itself had plenty of hair volume, making it long and heavy once braided, hanging down just enough to weigh on the shoulder. Paired with a light khaki cowboy hat, the overall head proportions were well balanced. The thin cord of the hat was secured under the chin, so it wouldn't blow away even in strong winds. During the shoot, I tried spinning the gun, constantly adjusting the grip and angle to capture the cool moment of handling the gun, which indeed took some time to get a satisfying shot. The afternoon sun that day was perfect, and the red wooden structure display board provided a fantastic contrast background. The warm light hitting the white wig pulled the overall lighting and shadow atmosphere to the max.
The weather was indeed a bit hot on the day of the shoot. A midriff-baring crop top like this doesn't really work in your favor outdoors. Body sweat makes skin and leather sticky, so we had to touch up makeup frequently, especially on the forehead and sides of the nose, blotting oil and reapplying powder at any moment to keep the makeup fresh. The thick silver braid on the back was actually quite heavy, causing my center of gravity to shift slightly when standing still for poses. To keep my posture steady, I had to lean against the red display board, which unexpectedly resulted in many lazy, wall-leaning shots. Honestly, while this outfit looks casual, doing an outdoor shoot with it requires full physical preparation.
The prop chosen this time was a green model pistol. It had a good weight in hand rather than feeling like flimsy plastic, so when doing poses like holding or aiming horizontally, the slight weight made it easier to strike a cool, sharp angle. The lighting artist and photographer communicated exceptionally well. Due to building shade at the scene, the light and shadows were staggered, which was perfect for using this layered light to capture the texture of skin and clothing—such as the light and shadow contrast of the black-and-white cow print top, and the distressed frayed edge details of the denim shorts, all perfectly recorded.
I think this look blends the contrasting elements of cute and cool really well, bringing both a casual daily outfit feel and an artistic vibe for creative photography. My original intention for this set was to try a different mashup style, breaking away from conventional heavy armor or uniform aesthetics. This combination of cowboy style and cow print elements truly gives off a relaxed yet empowering image. To achieve the best presentation, the synergy of makeup, hair, props, and scene was indispensable, and the final results of this outdoor shoot made all the previous prep work feel completely worth it.
