[Dusk cosplay] Painting Landscapes with the Brush: Capturing Arknights Ink Wash Style Moments

There are many behind-the-scenes details worth sharing about shooting this Arknights Dusk cosplay set.

To match the character's cool and elegant persona, the initial hair and makeup styling took considerable time. In particular, the pair of green dragon horns and pointed ears on top required meticulous angle adjustments during fixing to avoid visual flaws. The costume features a form-fitting blue-and-white design paired with leg straps and semi-sheer fabrics (Stockings cosplay), accentuating the character's sleek silhouette during the shoot while demanding constant poise during movement.

The most striking visual elements were the flowing translucent smoke and the red crescent moon in the background. In the studio, photographer Yansi ooo set up the camera while I stood before the smoke machine, letting the wind drift the smoke to evoke an ethereal Ink wash style texture. Poses had to remain relaxed rather than stiff. To reflect the theme of 'painting landscapes with the brush,' in the first profile shot, I subtly adjusted my hand gesture into a gentle holding curve—as if wielding a brush across thin air—directing my gaze toward my fingertips.

The second frontal shot holding the sword required steady composure: gripping the hilt with my right hand and balancing my center of gravity to let the red sword tassel drape naturally, pairing with the smoke's semi-translucent refractions to project the character's transcendent, commanding aura. Visual elements like leg straps also added rich layers to the frame in this Game cosplay portrayal.

Post-processing was equally crucial—harmonizing the composited smoke colors with my costume and utilizing cool-and-warm color contrasts to amplify the atmosphere. From planning to shooting and final retouching, this was a fulfilling and professional photography experience. Portraying Dusk allowed me to embody her unshakable, mountainous composure, and I hope the visual quality captures the vision everyone holds in their hearts.
