[Morgan, Lady of the Water cosplay] Fate/Grand Order: Serene Light and Shadow by the Summer Lakeside

This Photography studio shoot of Morgan, Lady of the Water cosplay (with deep ties to Toneriko cosplay lore) was backlogged for quite a while before finally being organized. When photographer Shi Yu reached out with the concept, my sheer love for this summer water form in Fate/Grand Order made me dive right into the project. The preparation on the day of the shoot was exceptionally intricate. This costume features an expansive, layered flowing skirt and delicate gossamer fabrics; to keep the metallic trims hanging with a crisp drape, my assistant stayed by my side nearly the entire time to prevent anyone from stepping on the train. For hair and makeup, the wig was chosen in a bright, silvery-white hue, styled with royal blue headdresses and crimson tassels to capture the character's regal presence. Regarding body proportions, I wore sheer stockings (Stockings cosplay) paired with crystal high heels to elongate the visual lines. While standing in high heels for hours takes a heavy physical toll, they sculpted the leg contours wonderfully under directional studio lighting.

The greatest challenge during shooting was choreographing the dynamic movement. For instance, in the full-body portrait, we attempted dozens of takes to freeze the floating, twirling effect of the skirt mid-air. I had to stabilize my center of gravity while coordinating with my assistant holding a wind machine behind me to direct the fabric's movement, all while keeping my facial expression poised in a calm, aloof, yet gentle state. Photographer Shi Yu was exceptionally skilled at capturing decisive moments, releasing the shutter the split second the dress flared to seize the perfect synergy between body silhouette and lighting. In this close-up shot in particular, he utilized the cool-toned backdrop of the Photography studio to illuminate the delicate translucent texture of the stockings, alongside the metallic gold accents and ribbon details across the chest.

Prior to the shoot, I studied the character's lore thoroughly. Although she is depicted as an almighty ruler, in this summer lakeside form, there is a gentle tranquility resting just beneath the surface. In my portrayal, I dialed back the overt aggression in favor of an effortless, relaxed demeanor to evoke that poetic essence of a soul residing peacefully above the lake. Because Shi Yu's post-processing prioritized authentic textures without over-smoothing the skin, the resulting images carry a distinctive, tangible realism. From costume preparation and pose design to the final deliverables, this entire process deepened my appreciation for this character, and I am truly grateful to Shi Yu for immortalizing this serene facet of Morgan, Lady of the Water through his lens.
