Patrolling Gensokyo against the freezing midday wind, only to run straight into someone's Freeze Sign "Perfect Freeze" along with a gale strong enough to blow people away—I almost turned into a popsicle on the spot. Don't think that pained expression watching the weather forecast in the car was just posing for a meme; it was genuinely cold enough to make me cry.
In fact, the fidelity of this red-and-white shrine maiden costume is quite high: the red base with gold thread embroidery and pearl headpieces are exquisite, and the white lace on the sides is heavily crafted, but the tradeoff is that it offers zero wind protection. Walking outside in deep winter wearing this, the cold draft seeped straight through the sleeves and collar, and the pearls hanging at my chest swayed with each step, feeling ice-cold against my collarbone. To recreate the makeup accurately, I spent a long time getting ready; facing the biting wind while wearing colored contact lenses was physical torment, bringing tears to my eyes.
At the time, I thought to myself: I absolutely cannot back down just because of a little Freeze Sign "Perfect Freeze", otherwise who will protect the peace of Gensokyo? So I gritted my teeth and persevered with the patrol. Later, when walking along the trail blanketed with fallen flowers, my mood improved instantly. The pink petals all over the ground became the best natural background. Although my hands were stiff from the cold, I still had to maintain my best condition facing the camera, striving to bring out the character's relaxed composure. The winking shot is the one where I felt in top form—the composition is well-centered, and the expression is playful enough.
By the way, who unleashed this gale anyway? If I catch the fool casting Freeze Sign "Perfect Freeze" all over the place, I definitely won't let her off easy. Achoo! My nose is practically running from the freeze, and the makeup was almost blown away. Still, getting these nice photos makes it completely worthwhile, especially the ambiance of holding the ofuda talisman amidst the carpet of fallen blossoms, which perfectly matches the character setting and serves as proof of my hard work protecting Gensokyo. Despite the bone-chilling wind, putting on a cosplay of a beloved work and completing an outdoor photoshoot seriously is quite a fun experience. Hopefully next time on patrol I can pick fine, sunny weather—and maybe even get featured in the Bunbunmaru Newspaper so everyone can see the heroic sight of my persistent patrol!
