Putting on Hoshimi Miyabi's full gear took longer than anticipated. Outside the venue in the early morning, long queues were already forming. As I adjusted the last strands of hair and the beast ears before walking toward the shooting area, I was greeted not only by crowds of people but also by the unique bustle and vitality characteristic of conventions. For today's Convention photos, I teamed up with photographer Bai Kai, who knows precisely how to capture a character's essence amidst complex convention lighting and bustling crowds. We found a relatively open rest area inside the hall, where the blue backdrop and geometric patterns instantly elevated the atmospheric vibe.
Cosplaying Hoshimi Miyabi this time brought the greatest challenge in the weight of the gear and the coordination of accessories. The black-tipped beast ears needed to be secured properly behind the blunt bangs, standing upright naturally without tilting. The wig was a matte straight black style with gradient-dyed ends. For the outfit, a teal-blue wide-sleeved coat paired with a white shirt and black tie created a handsome blend of Anime-style fashion with techwear elements, though layering them in a warm venue was a true test of stamina. The tactical waist belt and red-and-yellow tasseled cords served as key focal points, adding rich textural depth to this Black tights outfit. Most captivating yet heavy was the long-handled prop blade; managing its center of gravity was vital, especially during low-angle poses where maintaining dynamic tension while holding the prop steady was essential.
During the shoot, we deliberately simulated scenes showcasing the character's formidable presence. In the first shot, I lowered my center of gravity into a semi-crouched ready-to-strike stance, with artificial smoke released around my legs and back. Combined with cool-toned lighting and the faint structure of the venue behind me, it produced a chilling yet tranquil combat atmosphere. In the second photo, I chose a solid standing pose holding the sword upright while slightly tilting my head toward the camera. This shot clearly displayed the red contact lenses and detailed facial makeup prepared specifically for this look—the crimson eyes glowed brightly against the cool-toned porcelain complexion. The wig and bangs were styled cleanly without heavy fringe obscuring the gaze, allowing emotional expression to flow naturally through the eyes.
I personally adore Miyabi's decisive, composed aura, and the caption "I am this operation's ultimate weapon" perfectly captures my understanding of the character. Cosplay is a journey of touching a work's soul in reality; donning this uniform and gripping this blade, I felt not merely like someone standing in a convention hall, but genuinely immersed in a world rich with lore and combat. Moving between spots in such heavy gear was a test of both physical stamina and willpower, yet seeing these frozen moments in the camera washed away all the exhaustion. Many fellow enthusiasts and passersby stopped to take photos and interact; that feeling of accomplishment from being recognized and the shared joy among fans can only be truly appreciated through convention photos. The shoot went smoothly today—photographer Bai Kai timed the shutter flawlessly, rendering each planned composition with high texture. From photography to styling, approaching every appearance with dedication is my purest respect and love for Cosplay.
