[Cirno cosplay] Bamboo Forest and Hydrangeas in the Rain: A Cool Tones Interpretation of Touhou Project

Today's shoot was conducted during a passing rain shower. The reason for choosing this bamboo forest and blue hydrangea bush was primarily to utilize the natural environment to reinforce the visual unity of Cool tones. Raindrops falling on the transparent umbrella surface, combined with the surrounding moist leaves, set a serene and cool baseline for this set of works featuring a Blue theme.

Regarding makeup and styling, the light blue short wig was carefully trimmed beforehand, with curves on both sides perfectly framing the face, while the large blue bow on top with white fluffy pom-poms along its edges gave the look a more 3D and airy feel. For the costume, I chose a light blue sleeveless dress paired with an inner white short-sleeved top featuring ruffled edges and beaded cuffs. Delicate lace along the neckline and that splash of a small red bow on the chest played a wonderful breaking role within the vast Cool tones of green and light blue, stabilizing the picture's visual center of gravity.

I especially want to talk about the props used this time. The pair of polyhedral crystal wings behind me featured a polarized coating on the surface; when natural diffuse light on an overcast day passed through them, it refracted faint blue-purple halos, visually offering an exceptional ice-crystal texture. The transparent umbrella served as the main interactive prop of the day, with black ribs giving clearer line definition. The moment raindrops slid down the umbrella surface was captured by the lens, perfectly matching the overall cooling ambiance.

Shooting Cosplay in the rain actually tested on-site adaptability significantly. I needed to constantly adjust body placement and gravity center to ensure the bow on my head and wings behind stayed in stable compositions within the frame. Meanwhile, umbrella-holding postures also required finesse: slightly altering the handle position or body tilt angle would affect body lines across the picture, thereby changing the final aura presented.

Since lighting that day was typical overcast diffuse reflection, harsh shadow lines or rigid darkness did not appear on face or costume, rendering skin tones very soft overall. During post-processing, we mainly preserved the deep green hue of the bamboo and brightness of blue hydrangeas without excessive color shifts, striving to restore the moist, clean visual feel of a rainy day.

During breaks in filming, gentle breezes blew through the bamboo forest creating rustling sounds, accompanied by white noise of fine rain tapping on the umbrella surface. This sensory experience on site was deeply immersive, allowing me to easily enter Cirno's cool and focused state from Touhou Project. Across the entire set, I didn't make overly exaggerated expressions, maintaining serene and focused eyes instead, which, paired with the umbrella in hand and wings behind, built a unique temperament belonging specifically to this character.

This shooting process where environment, costume/props, and natural lighting cooperate is precisely where the joy of this hobby lies. From wig management to prop securing, from scene selection to the moment of clicking the shutter, coordination across every step directly impacts final photo presentation. Although completing this set of photos during Cirno cosplay in the rain was a bit tiring on site, I am thoroughly satisfied with the final Cool tones texture and pure atmosphere.
