This photoshoot explored a more serene and quiet side of Marisa Kirisame, tying into the lore of Patchouli's books with a sea-of-books set constructed in the studio for this Studio shooting.
The prop team prepared dozens of hefty tomes arranged in a circle across the set, allowing for comfortable sitting or leaning poses. The most crucial light source during the shoot was a kerosene lamp, casting warm yellow light into the dark background to create a strong contrast between light and shadow. To achieve the aesthetic light rays of the Tyndall effect, the photographer introduced smoke haze into the space.
The first high-angle shot blended harmoniously with the contours of the book stacks and lighting, while the second eye-level shot offered a more relaxed feel. The outfit chosen featured a classic black-and-white color palette with abundant lace and ruffles along the skirt hem; in particular, the white lace stockings (White stockings) paired with lace-up boots accentuated the leg lines nicely. Aiming to express that peaceful state of quiet reading, I avoided large movements throughout the session, focusing primarily on looking down, holding a book, or turning sideways.
The light and shadow texture in the finished photos turned out fantastic, with shadow details well preserved and highlights kept from blowing out. The shooting process was actually quite tiring due to holding fixed poses for long periods amidst a pile of books. However, to match this cool-toned vintage atmosphere and faithfully recreate the character's tranquil demeanor, the final outcome was deeply satisfying.
