[Kochiya Sanae Cosplay] Blue and White Hemline Dancing with Flowers, Recording the Miraculous Dance of Wind

The theme of this Flower sea outdoor photoshoot was set as "The Miraculous Dance of Wind," mainly aiming to break the somewhat rigid impression of this character in traditional fan works and present her resonance with the wind and nature from a lighter, more natural perspective.

During the costume preparation stage, this Blue and white Western-style dress was exceptionally eye-catching. The white high-collared base top featured exquisite red embellishments at the neck, creating clear layers between inner and outer garments. The outer robe's exaggerated wide ruffled sleeves and the white wave-like or feather-like patterns printed across the broad blue fabric of the skirt, combined with dense white ruffles at the bottom, delivered both Lolita-style intricate splendor and the understated, serene elegance of Touhou Project's Gensokyo. To complement this outfit, instead of stiff long straight hair, we opted for layered mint-green long hair paired with blue-and-white tassel headpieces on the right side, giving the overall look a more dynamic visual flow.

As for the props, the wand with long strands of blue-and-white tassels held in hand was the soul of this shoot. Before shooting, the photographer and I conducted several dynamic rehearsals for these props, as the trajectory of flowing ribbons can rarely rely solely on luck. To capture the moment of ribbons intertwining and stretching with the wind, we shot extensive high-speed continuous bursts. The first photo captures a moment during high-speed continuous shooting: as both hands swung the props, the blue ribbons traced highly tension-filled arcs in the air, freeze-framing that "miraculous" dynamic motion under the photographer's shutter speed and localized highlight. The second photo is a static composition I have always loved, gently pinching a flower stem amidst blooming white clusters, where the refraction of light created a soft rim light on the white fabric of the dress, appearing remarkably clean and translucent.

For scene selection, we avoided the bustling center of the park and chose a quiet corner filled with white hydrangeas or similar cluster-flowered plants. White blossoms, green leaves, mint-green long hair, and the blue-and-white outfit formed a remarkably refreshing cool-toned color pairing. It was a sunny afternoon during the shoot, with strong sunlight casting dappled light and shadow through the gaps between flowers and leaves. To balance the contrast, we used the surrounding white flowers as natural reflectors, ensuring facial details and makeup colors remained clear, soft, and translucent even under strong light. The photographer's lens composition was also meticulous—neither blocked by foreground flowers nor missing the subject—while cleverly using a wide aperture to create a dreamy bokeh effect out of the background foliage.

Before this shoot, I thoroughly organized this character's common depictions across various fan-made contexts. Many official-style or fan photosets tend to be overly serious or focused on spell card displays, whereas I preferred connecting her directly with nature. The mint-green hair color is a highlight identifier in itself; combined with ruffled edges, wide sleeves, and flowing tassels, the entire outfit undulates like running water whenever the wind blows. As a Cosplayer, beyond solid posing, handling such dynamic clothing and props truly tests one's grasp of wind direction. I had to adjust my standing angle in real-time so the ribbons flew toward the camera following the wind rather than wrapping around myself, yielding a high success rate without requiring excessive liquify editing in post-processing.

During shooting breaks, the photographer and I discussed the post-processing direction for this set. The second photo really tested light and shadow control, as white flowers and white fabrics easily overexpose and lose detail under intense light. Therefore, in post-production, we focused on fine-tuning highlights and shadows, suppressing the brightness of white areas to preserve fabric textures and stamen details, while slightly lifting the shadows to make the eye highlights brighter. The overall color grading moved toward mint blue and pure white, reducing yellow-green interference to present a cool, dreamy, yet naturally everyday atmosphere.
