This time, the photos are mainly set under the moonlight and cherry blossoms in a Hakugyokurou style. The focus is to present Saigyouji Yuyuko's characteristic of being both ethereal and slightly surreal, so I made a lot of attempts in coordinating the overall scene and clothing layers.
The main color tone of the costume uses a large area of white tulle fabric, with the neckline and sleeves designed with relatively intricate ruffles and pleats to increase the volume and lightness of the clothes. The waistband features a blue-purple patchwork interwoven with thick, three-dimensional purple flower decorations to balance the large amount of white on the upper body. A blue butterfly-shaped choker was specially worn around the neck; this small detail visually echoes the folding fan and the overall cool-toned elements. The inner wear also considers layering, with a blue-purple lining faintly peeking out between the inner skirt hem and the outer white tulle, giving a better transition to the body curves and the spreading of the skirt hem when sitting down.
The arrangement of the scene props this time was the highlight of the shoot. The huge glowing moon in the background is the core of the entire frame. The lighting direction is side-frontal light with a relatively soft light source, perfectly recreating that cool, hazy atmosphere under the moonlight. A dark, black-framed Japanese folding screen is paired behind, which not only adds a sense of depth but also grounds the background so it doesn't look too detached. A large number of artificial cherry blossom branches interwoven with light pink and pale blue are arranged on both sides, interspersed with a few dark blue butterflies; this color scheme beautifully contrasts with the character's pink and white styling.
Detailed props were also carefully selected. The purple parasol on the left is hung with a loop of long white pearls, utilizing the draped feel to break the static nature of the frame, while the warm yellow standing paper lantern on the right serves as a splash of bright color within the cool tones. The intersection of this warm and cool light in the frame beautifully outlines the character's silhouette. The blue folding fan in hand features star patterns, sharing a very high compatibility with the overall styling. On the feet is a pair of black platform flower shoes, which, under the contrast of the dark folding screen and the floor, refines the leg lines nicely and enhances the character's stability in the frame.
For the makeup, special attention was paid to the eye makeup effects this time, embellishing the under-eyes and eyelids with fine shimmering glitters. Combined with the short pink hair styling, I hoped to present that shimmering, dreamlike feel in front of the lens for this moonlight cherry blossom styling. During the shoot, to find suitable sitting poses and angles for holding the fan, I repeatedly adjusted the position of my center of gravity—ensuring that the dress's ruffles weren't crushed out of shape while maintaining a visual balance between the folding fan's display angle and the moon prop.
Although every shoot inevitably involves moving large props and repeatedly adjusting camera positions, seeing all these elements combine together in the final photos to recreate that scene belonging to Touhou Project in my heart for this dreamy Japanese-style photography, it makes this process of anime cosplay daily life feel incredibly rewarding and fun.
