[Shenhe cosplay] Distant and Aloof Solitude Beneath Baizhangji Waterfall

The water flow at Baizhangji Waterfall was even swifter than expected; the moment the mist rushed against my face, the icy touch instantly helped me find the character's state. Choosing Baizhangji Waterfall in Wencheng, Wenzhou for this shoot was specifically to utilize its natural waterfall as a backdrop. When the drone flew up or the photographer shot at eye level, the massive curtain of water paired with the mossy, rugged rocks behind created a cool, aloof, and solitary vibe that perfectly matched Shenhe's character temperament.

The costume itself features many detailed touches. The white sleeveless top has a very crisp, tailored fit rather than looking loose. For the lower half, the deep blue long skirt has a slit positioned right on the side, naturally revealing the red inner lining while walking or turning, adding a bright pop of color to the cooler overall visual tone. The white cross-body pouch paired this time, along with that red dangling earring, also served as wonderful accent pieces. The wig was restyled together with a friend, with the silver-white hair featuring a gradient; the headband on top and the braided plait on the right side came out with great strand texture and depth under natural outdoor light.

During Outdoor photography, especially near water, the biggest headache is the environment's impact on makeup and hair. The mist at Baizhangji Waterfall was so heavy that after shooting for a little bit, we had to stop and press tissue paper to absorb moisture on the wig and face so the makeup wouldn't smudge or the wig collapse. The second photo featuring a backward glance was actually captured when we were preparing to move to the next position and the photographer suddenly called me to turn around. With the roaring water behind me, I turned sideways to look back at the lens, nicely outlining my neck, shoulders, and waistline; combined with the slit skirt fluttering slightly, the dynamic energy of my movement was frozen in time. Inadvertent candid moments like this are often much more vivid than staged poses.

Although the overall outdoor experience was tough with plenty of mosquitoes, standing beside the boulder railing, listening to the roaring waterfall, and feeling the mist-laden wind created an intensely immersive feeling of cool, austere solitude. Compared to pure studio shoots, real location shoots truly give characters more life. Looking through raw shots in the camera after finishing—whether close-ups before the waterfall or full-body shots standing sideways by the wooden railing—the texture of light, shadow, and emotion felt phenomenal. This is probably why many fellow enthusiasts prefer location shoots, like when arranging a Wenzhou photoshoot booking, where combining person and scenery creates a far more natural visual atmosphere.
