At Comicup 31, I brought out Janus from Azur Lane. I didn't hesitate much when deciding on this character, as I've always found her charming mix of apparent obedience and subtle inner thoughts irresistible. So the moment I received this light blue wig from Uwowocos, the photoshoot plan was set.
Let's start with the makeup and hair. To capture her sheer, translucent aura, I applied a very thin foundation base and focused on defining the eyes. These cyan-blue contact lenses were the soul of the makeup; combined with delicate highlights and aegyo sal contours, they gave my gaze a dewy, innocent look. For lips, I chose a moisturizing reddish-brown shade that provided a healthy pop of color under natural car lighting without being overly bold. A whisper of peach blush added a natural flush, preventing the cool tones of the wig from making my complexion look pale.
In terms of costumes and props, I prepared everything meticulously. The golden rhinestone crown headpiece had considerable weight, paired with the cascading red tulle on the side; this red, white, blue, and gold palette captured the elegance of the Azur Lane Royal Navy while highlighting her personality. The crisp white ribbon headband provided a smooth transition. The anchor pendant hanging from the red collar choker was my absolute favorite piece—its metallic sheen gleamed beautifully under the natural light inside the car. To be honest, carrying this full gear around Comicup 31 all day put quite a strain on my neck and shoulders, and with the warm weather, I was constantly checking whether sweat was sticking to my bangs.
Fortunately, my companion on the trip truly understood the essence of the character, so we shot this set of close-up portraits directly inside the car. Rather than hunting for wide outdoor sets, I enjoyed this candid, lifestyle in-car capture; light filtering through the window fell softly across my face, casting subtle glimmer along the crown's edges. Finding angles to accentuate facial features and accessory textures allowed the makeup artist's craftsmanship to shine through under this lighting.
Although the shoot was exhausting, seeing the final photos made the entire month of preparation feel completely worthwhile. Cosplay is not just a hobby, but a sincere expression of love for a character—a dedicated attempt to capture that exact aura from a parallel world. Bringing Janus to Comicup 31 fulfilled a cherished personal wish. I hope everyone who sees this portrayal can feel her signature serenity and gentleness.
