For these Convention photos, I chose Cheshire from Azur Lane, and the costume I prepared in advance finally got its chance to shine. The entire ensemble features a bold contrast of black and white patchwork paired with deep purple fabric, visually complementing Cheshire's lively yet slightly mysterious charm. The oversized cat-ear headpiece atop my head is the true soul of the costume; crafted from structured fabric into a large bow with gold patterns along the edges, it drapes down with sheer white tulle. To properly secure this headpiece, I spent a lot of time adjusting it before the shoot, tilting it slightly to add an extra touch of playfulness.
The main dress is packed with intricate Lolita style design details. The black-and-white top features double-layered ruffles at the chest, centered with a black bow accented by a small gold charm. The puff sleeves on both shoulders utilize multi-tiered sheer white tulle overlaid with black lace trims, creating rich layers. The off-the-shoulder cut, paired with a choker and cross bow at the neck, accentuates the neckline beautifully.
The lower skirt is wonderfully dramatic: the dark purple outer apron fabric features delicate jacquard patterns embellished with slender gold chains and stitching, demonstrating exquisite craftsmanship. Beneath it lies a voluminous white pleated skirt flaring outward layer upon layer. To achieve this puffiness, several petticoat layers were worn underneath. Under the reflective marble floor of the convention venue, the shadows cast by the skirt created striking visual depth. My height advantage paired with this mini-length skirt design accentuated my leg lines, and complementing it with a White thigh-highs outfit and semi-sheer white tights made them appear even longer visually.
Regarding makeup and the wig, the wig features an off-white base with aqua-blue highlights through the bangs and sidelocks, an iconic palette true to the character. During styling, straight bangs were carefully preserved to maintain a fluffy silhouette. The makeup was kept balanced rather than overly heavy—warm orange-brown eyeshadow paired with red contact lenses looked radiant and lively under bright convention hall lighting while preserving that distinct 2D charm.
In terms of posing, referencing feline gestures proved great for candid shots. For example, lifting one leg while holding a Manjuu plush with a slight head tilt looks delightfully playful. Another pose flashing heart signs with a slight forward lean elongated body proportions while better showcasing the dress's cinched waist. I especially adore the bottom-left kneeling pose in the 4-grid collage, where holding both hands above my head like cat paws captured all of Cheshire's mischievous energy. The seated shot was quite a test of lighting: overhead lighting from the venue fell naturally, giving the white stockings a subtle sheen against the clean floor tiles as the skirt fanned out around like a blooming flower.
Since these are Convention photos taken at a busy event, the background was naturally complex with crowds bustling around; yet precisely because of this, convention shots often capture the most spontaneous and vivid expressions. The photographer utilized a prime fast-aperture lens, which softly blurred out the surrounding bustle while crisply outlining my silhouette. Daytime ambient light mixed with the venue's indoor lights produced a cool-toned white illumination that rendered the black, white, and purple dress wonderfully soft and pristine.
The greatest challenge during shooting was maintaining the skirt's volume while coordinating movements, as the garment was significantly heavier than it appeared. However, seeing the final photos made all the effort feel worthwhile. Although the outfit is opulent, it doesn't look bulky; the balanced amount of exposed skin harmonizes flawlessly with the cascading ruffles. Wearing this Cheshire Cosplay costume made me immerse entirely into the character, naturally adding lightness to every gesture. I wonder if everyone enjoys photos in this Lolita style—feel free to share your thoughts!
