The convention hall shots for this Astra Yao skin from Zenless Zone Zero are finally sorted out! To bring this character to life at the Firefly Comic Con, immense care went into the early preparations. The body of the costume is made from leather fabric with a subtle sheen; to look its best on camera, wrinkles and fit had to be adjusted repeatedly in many areas. The golden ring across the chest and the pearl necklace accessories serve as the highlights of this styling, radiating an aura of lavishness that is both vintage and modern. The wig was specifically chosen as long straight black hair with defined layers, paired with neatly trimmed blunt bangs and purplish-red colored contacts, effectively capturing Astra Yao's gently enigmatic and graceful temperament. For makeup, we accentuated the blending at the outer corners of the eyes and selected a true-red lip shade, ensuring the face held up well under the flash in such a dark garage setting.
Foot traffic inside the Firefly Comic Con venue was enormous, making it quite difficult to find clean backgrounds for photos, so we specifically chose the underground parking garage for these shots. The dark grey concrete walls and yellow parking lines formed a striking contrast with this black-and-white stage outfit. During the shoot, we used a key light paired with a rim light to separate the subject from the dim backdrop, bringing out the reflective texture of the leather dress wonderfully.
In terms of posing direction, I particularly love the seated shots. With the short skirt design and white pantyhose Stockings, leaning my center of gravity slightly back while extending one leg forward effectively elongated the leg lines, while also fully showcasing the pearl strand accents on the high heels. Interacting subtly with the cars or concrete pillars—such as holding the small black crossbody bag—lent a natural, everyday touch to the composition.
The outfit is remarkably meticulous with details, such as the lace and champagne ribbons on the detached white sleeves, as well as the multi-layered puffy tulle of the skirt that flares out naturally when walking. Displaying the footwear and legs was another major focal point of this shoot: the semi-sheer texture of the pantyhose Stockings paired with black pointed-toe high heels looked phenomenal under the flash.
Meeting fellow fans at the comic con was genuinely delightful. Mid-shoot, we also experimented with a top-down shot of me lying on the ground, using lighting to illuminate the edges of the long hair and adding subtle luminous starburst effects, which created a wonderful mood. Retouching these hall shots primarily involved adjusting the light-and-shadow contrast to emphasize fabric textures and leg skin tones, intentionally avoiding over-smoothing to preserve authentic texture. I hope this set of photos successfully conveys the character's unique charm.
