A new set of photos from our outdoor shoot has been smoothly released. This time, the location was chosen at this magnificent European castle architectural complex; that marble texture and open lawn are perfect for showcasing this character's gorgeousness.
Let's first talk about the details of this costume. The primary colors are a highly impactful true red and pure white. The bodice structure on the chest, decorated with a golden disc, is more complex than imagined; to fit the outer silhouette, a lot of invisible supports were made inside. The red asymmetrical wide-sleeved coat paired with a white multi-layered skirt, adorned with stars and geometric lines, makes the overall sense of layering incredibly rich. In terms of accessories, special attention was paid to the application of pearl elements this time—whether it's the red-based pearl choker on the neck, the pearl straps on the shoes, or the strand of pearls on the thigh ring, they all elevated the overall refinement significantly.
Next to discuss is the key prop this time—the staff. The physical item is even heavier than it looks in photos; its all-metal texture combined with the mechanical compass structure at the top gives it a solid weight in hand. During the shoot, to maintain my posture and the angle of the staff, my wrists and core got quite tired from controlling it, but the resulting poses truly carry the vibe of a fantasy mage. The dial at the top is a double-sided design, and the patchwork of silver and gold creates beautiful reflections under the sun.
The weather on this day was also exceptionally supportive, with blue skies, white clouds, and very translucent sunlight. The photographer's approach was to utilize the natural top light of daytime combined with the castle's shaded areas for lighting, which both outlined the clothing silhouette and prevented the frame from overexposing. For this kind of casual cosplay under outdoor natural light, light is the biggest variable, but this time the lighting effects perfectly matched the character's temperament.
In terms of composition, we experimented with various angles during the shooting process. The shot of sitting on a white cloud-patterned marble sculpture utilized the stone's own curves and sculptural feel as a foreground obstruction, creating a quiet frame effect. The shot on the stairs utilized the architectural lines to give the entire photo more depth and three-dimensionality. The photographer grasped the angles well, and I did my best in front of the lens to master that confident and elegant expression.
Actually, during the early preparation stage, I also referenced many possibilities for characters in this setting. Although the upper body of this costume is relatively slim-fitting, the skirt design is quite lightweight, still allowing flexibility of movement. To recreate that feeling of clothes fluttering in the wind, we captured quite a few dynamic walking snapshots. However, those frozen postures in the photos beautifully highlight the costume's own design sense and the details of the props.
The atmospheric feel presented in the final photoshoot, in my opinion, carries both the artistic setting of the two-dimensional world and blends in the real light and shadow of the physical environment. The texture delivered by an outdoor shoot like this is completely different from a studio shoot; the architectural background provides an excellent foil for the character, who becomes the visual focus within this castle. Doing a great job with cosplay is not just about restoring costumes and props, but a perfect fusion of one's mental state and the scene's atmosphere. I hope the style of this set brings everyone a unique feeling, beautifully embodying the essence of Anime-style photography.
