I completed a set of photos that I absolutely love on Cat Island; the scenery here is indeed perfect for recreating the character's atmosphere. The weather by the sea was amazing, and the pure blue background gave the entire frame a translucent feel.
During the shoot, I brought a simple white paper windmill as a small prop, which captured some lively moments when it spun. The first set was taken next to the pier, where the sound of waves crashing against the shore was very clear; the shot where I squatted down perfectly simulates the character's sense of quietly watching. Later, we moved to the stone platform of the embankment, where I tried to open my arms to maintain balance. The breeze blew right on cue, lifting my short hair and skirt hem, making the overall look exceptionally energetic. My personal favorite is the perspective of glancing back while holding the windmill, where the blue sea and sky merged into one. With the embellishment of the sailor hat and bowtie, the white costume maintained a great sense of layering even under the harsh light. The sparkling sunlight on the water surface created reflected light spots, giving the entire image a sense of transparency.
This style of seaside photoshoot doesn't require too many complex props; the key is to catch the natural state under raw light. The sea breeze was actually quite strong, making the wig easily messy in the wind, so we had to constantly adjust angles during the shoot to let the hair strands present a natural curvature blown by the wind, rather than being completely chaotic. The collar and skirt lines of the sailor uniform easily changed shape while walking, so the pace and the range of stillness had to be controlled just right. To capture that weightless posture, the same set of movements was actually repeated many times.
In addition, the concrete embankment on the ground and the rough stone beach actually added some contrast in texture to the image, creating a juxtaposition between the soft white fabric and the harsh environment. When standing at a higher position and gazing into the distance, that sense of openness also perfectly fit the character's own temperament. I have always felt that the charm of an outdoor shoot lies in the ever-changing light; there is no need for intentional lighting, as the sun's position serves as the best fill light. Under such bright light, the color reproduction of skin tone and clothing is highly realistic and natural.
Although walking around during the shoot was a bit tiring, it felt incredibly fulfilling. The final close-up of crouching by the stone wall also slowed down the pace, showing a quiet and healing side. Overall, it was a highly collaborative outdoor shoot that beautifully blended the character's cool aloofness with the vibe of a seaside summer. When sorting through the photos, I felt that every single moment was worth keeping. The final images from this session are completely clear and clean.
