The King of Earth and Mountains was never the kind of existence that needed to shout to prove its majesty. When facing the lens, the core I wanted to convey was that coldness and disdain unique to Jormungandr, rather than simple screaming or exaggerated flamboyance. After stripping away the identity of Xia Mi, her aloof pride—burdened with a heavy mission yet full of a sense of taboo—required a very restrained performance to capture. From the initial concept to the final execution, a lot of preparation went into this cosplay photoshoot.

First is the chemical reaction between the battle damage makeup and the armor. We repeatedly refined this set of black spiked armor from material selection to production. Although it looks like heavy metal, the material of the pauldrons and breastplate underwent special molding so the model could flexibly strike various poses during the shoot. To give it a cold, hard, and reflective texture, a special coating was applied to the surface. My favorite part of the makeup is that deep streak of red beneath the eyes; it isn't flashy, but like a dark flame stirring under the abyss. For the battle damage part, I didn't deliberately chase a pretty look, but instead allowed it to look authentically "dirty." The smudges on my body and legs were specially mixed gray-brown pigments, and the muddy and rough texture shown when applied over the stockings perfectly fits the weathering of the King of Earth having gone through the washing of battle.

The prop scenery used in this collaboration also provided great convenience for us to shape the character. The Gothic black throne paired with a pure white carved ruin backdrop placed nobility and desolation in the frame simultaneously through this intense black-and-white contrast. That massive black grand piano was an expression of another dimension—a quiet dominance; the fingertips of the King of Earth tapping the keys felt as if they could trigger resonance at any moment. The photographer really understood this sense of contrast. Under high-contrast cross-lighting, my skin texture and the edges of the armor were sculpted as sharply as if carved by a knife.

While capturing these shots, I found that the hardest part wasn't mastering the expressions, but controlling the posture. To ensure that even when casually sitting on the throne or next to the piano, there is a natural aura. That sense of loneliness that refuses to let others close is the soul undertone of Jormungandr. Walking around the studio in black patent leather red-bottom high heels, this physical "elevation" involuntarily made my gaze proud. When the battle damage makeup was paired with those iconic elf ears, the overall emotion was naturally guided toward the cold and desolate cruel aesthetic of Dragon Raja's early days.

The final presentation of this photoshoot can be said to have broken the boundaries of my perception of my own abilities. In the large environment blended with black, white, and cold gray, the red at the corners of the eyes, the deep red of the shoe soles, and those subtle battle damage traces formed a delicate balance. I didn't need to feign power; I just needed to sit there quietly, using my eyes to accept the hammering of light and shadow. After throwing myself completely into the character, observing the interlocking of shadows and light, the final image quality indeed brought many surprises. Presenting the majesty of Jormungandr's first appearance as the King of Earth in this grounded and powerful way is a fairly satisfying answer sheet I have delivered for this fantasy portrait photography creation.
