Regarding the shoot for this Seele cosplay photoshoot, I want to record some of my feelings during the process. For this set of photos, we chose a real-life studio dominated by a blue and white color palette, with an overall dreamlike and cold atmosphere. The floor was intentionally covered with a highly reflective mirror panel, which actually heavily tests the positioning and the lighting technician's control during a live shoot, because any slight carelessness would capture the light stands or one's own ruined reflection. To make the reflection of the mirror clear and blend with the character, the main light was kept very soft, paired with blue and white LED light strips to create a contrast between warm and cold color temperatures. The resulting image feels very transparent, and the overall color tone perfectly highlights the character's cool and aloof temperament. This is a very interesting experience in mirror photography.
The costume accuracy for the character this time was quite good. The silver pointed horn decorations at the neckline, the red pendants, the hollowed-out cutouts at the collar, and the special red mark on the chest all needed to be adjusted and straightened repeatedly before shooting to ensure alignment with the setting. The large red bow on the chest and the draped ribbons formed a visual leap and embellishment within the blue and white main color scheme. The most dedicated part was actually this set of purple tights, which feature distinct vertical thin white lines. During the shoot, not only did we have to ensure that the texture didn't deform or pill after stretching, but it also had to be paired with black chunky heels to find the visual balance of the center of gravity. Putting them on and taking them off was indeed tedious, but combined with the highly reflective floor, the resulting leg lines and sense of extension were truly worth all the trouble.
I didn't design too many large-scale movements for the entire set of poses; I mainly wanted to capture Seele's cool aura mixed with a bit of natural, airheaded playfulness. Coordinating with that signature small yellow electric ball plush toy, whether cradling it in my chest or casually playing with it in my hand, my gaze and gestures would unconsciously soften up. This time, I finally chose a side-sitting posture with an open palm, stretching the legs through the perspective of a wide-angle lens to give full play to the advantages of the purple thigh-high socks. When asked, "Will you dream of that butterfly?", probably because of the ambient blue and white light and shadow and the mirror-like reflections on set, it truly gave people a quiet illusion of being at the border between reality and dreams.
When actually sitting on the mirror floor, one needs to pay special attention to the stability of the external center of gravity. With a little carelessness, the fabric under the skirt can easily pull into obvious wrinkles or leak extra padding, requiring the photographer to constantly remind and adjust the angle. But it is precisely these small episodes and repeated fine-tunings during the actual shoot that constitute the vivid working state behind every single final photo. Recording this experience, I hope to provide some reference regarding mirror reflections and emotional expression for fellow enthusiasts of Anime-style photography who are interested in this kind of scenery. After all, a good visual presentation is truly inseparable from meticulous early setup and run-in.
