Choosing to shoot this set of photos in this festive street scene was actually a plan I had made a long time ago. Often, we expect a perfect indoor studio set, but in reality, utilizing authentic storefront decorations or carefully constructed floral arches and Christmas trees can better capture that unique texture when the character interacts with a real space.
This outfit coordination mainly revolves around the two keywords of "flowers" and "lightness." The white shirt and pleated skirt are a classic combination; it doesn't look overly complicated and perfectly brings out the character's temperament. The lotus-root pink chunky knit cardigan on the shoulders is the finishing touch. Its drop-shoulder design, in particular, breaks the formal feel of the clothes themselves while adding a bit of languor and gentleness. This perfectly matches the feeling this character gives me—seemingly aloof but possessing warmth.
The lighting conditions on the day of the shoot were very soft. Especially this romantic, warm-toned ambient light—when it hits the white fabric, it creates an excellent diffuse reflection effect. The photographer is highly skilled in portrait photography and knows how to utilize the foreground; the geometric metallic deer in the lower left corner serves as a great visual guide in the frame, and its reflective texture stands out brilliantly even out of focus. Regarding the makeup, I deliberately took a minimalist approach this time, avoiding heavy eyeshadow or lip colors, and instead emphasized the sheer and natural feel of the base makeup. Since the scene itself already contains a massive amount of red and green floral colors and string lights, an overly complex facial makeup would make the frame look too cluttered.
We actually encountered a little hiccup this time. A light rain had just fallen before the shoot, leaving the ground slightly wet. To keep the skirt hem clean and in shape, we made many temporary adjustments on site. Fortunately, the fabric of the clothes was crisp enough, avoiding any awkward wrinkling situations. Speaking of hair, creating this slightly curled braided effect always tests the stylist, as it requires balancing the fluffiness of the hair with the symmetry on both sides. Magnified by the lens, any slight unevenness would look glaringly obvious, but luckily, I am extremely satisfied with the final result.
During photo selection, we unanimously decided to keep this set of photos with a rich winter vibe. If not handled well, this high-saturation red, green, and gold can look very tacky, but by cleverly utilizing white-toned clothing to neutralize it, the image appears both gorgeous and clean. The leather boots paired this time also perfectly suit the overall style, providing good support without looking too clunky. Furthermore, regarding lighting, the vintage glass street lamp on the right not only adds layers to the frame but also acts as a very natural environmental light source, maximizing the atmospheric feel of the whole photo. Although there are no overly complex props, such a minimalist combination actually highlights the character's spirit even more.
Actually, when shooting this type of specific-style floral photography, the hardest part is often not forcing a pose, but immersing yourself in the emotion. You have to treat yourself as that character and step into the atmosphere woven for her. When facing the camera, I don't need to smile deliberately or make exaggerated movements; just maintaining the most natural state and looking softly into the lens, combined with the retro feel brought by those leather shoes, is enough to express the frame. Perhaps this is one of the charms of cosplay; it can be a fleeting dream where, through the unity of costume, makeup, lighting, and environment, we briefly experience the living texture of another character.
During post-processing, I also put a lot of thought into unifying the color tones, wanting to preserve that unique feeling of being both chilly and warm, characteristic of a winter evening. Every time I release a cosplay photoshoot, it's a process of brand new aesthetic exploration for me. I am very glad to have worked with the team this time to truly ground these inspirations into images. I hope this set of photos can bring everyone some cozy feelings in the winter.
