This red and white color-matched outfit, combined with the huge fluffy tail, makes me feel like I have my own background music whenever I step outside. Taking advantage of the great weather, I shot a set of daily-themed photos by the street, perfectly replicating that agile and slightly playful vibe of Ye Shunguang. The bow headband on my head and the red hairband on my forehead are the crowning touches of the entire look. Although the white symbols and decorative details on them are very tiny, I specifically compared several versions when making the props and finally selected this print that stays closest to the original design. The golden heart-shaped pendant at the neckline and the little bell underneath make a crisp sound when walking, and the photographer mentioned during the shoot that this sound actually added a realistic sense of rhythm to the frames.
The striped skirt hem on the lower body features an irregular cut, with a bright pink outer layer and a pure white lining. When spinning around, the skirt unfolds like a flower, making the dynamic effect incredibly photogenic. To recreate the fluffiness of the tail, I used two different colors of faux fur stitched and styled together; although it's a bit heavy, it provides great support and doesn't sag while walking down the street. The matching small red crossbody bag and the chunky-heeled red shoes on my feet keep the overall colors highly unified without looking too dull. This shoot was intentionally chosen in a commercial district with glass display windows and red pillars, utilizing natural light and architectural lines to blend the character's liveliness with an urban vibe.
Actually, the most time-consuming part of this cosplay was the makeup. To highlight that clear yet slightly cunning gaze, I repeatedly adjusted the curvature of the eyeliner and false eyelashes, and specially selected a pair of light brown colored contacts to match the wig's color. During the shoot, the photographer captured many moments of walking and turning. For example, the action in the second photo where I'm holding a drink cup was meant to simulate the character's relaxed state during daily shopping; the pose in the third photo where I lean against a pillar and lift my skirt hem feels more like interacting with the lens, and I think that one has the most natural gaze and posture.
As a player who frequently goes for outdoor photography, I know deeply how vital a good set of equipment is to the reproduction level. From the ruffles on the shoulders to the red lacing at the waist, every single detail went through multiple try-ons and modifications. Especially that tail—because it needs to coordinate with the dynamic movement of walking, its fixed position must be securely clamped between the waist girdle and the skirt hem, ensuring it neither affects the drape of the skirt nor wildly swings from side to side. The sunlight was extremely strong on the day of the shoot, but conversely, I felt this high-light environment was perfectly suited for this red and white color-matched costume, because the pure white portion reflects a soft sheen under the sun, while the red appears more vibrant, making the entire frame look highly translucent.
Ultimately, the greatest joy of roleplay isn't how exquisite the shot photos turn out, but walking down the street in this outfit—even if it's just to buy a drink—and being able to completely immerse oneself into the character's state. I hope this set of photos can convey Ye Shunguang's casual and cute qualities, making all the time I spent managing this costume and wig entirely worthwhile.
