Shooting this set of photos for Emerald from Lovebrush Chronicles took quite a bit of thought from early preparation to actual implementation.

For the costume, I chose a black and gold robe with subtle pattern luster. This material has subtle golden reflections under strong light, beautifully fitting the character's inherent introverted yet somewhat detached temperament. The wig is silver-white, and to conform to the character's styling, updo and sideburn details were carefully handled.

For the scene portion, we found a relatively open indoor venue through Meizhou photoshoot booking. To recreate the feeling of being under the moonlight, we specifically brought a large glowing moon device as the primary light source. The set used a massive amount of white tulle and smoke cakes. The white tulle was used not only to block part of the light to soften it, but also to create that ethereal, mysterious spatial layering. Black reflectors were laid on the ground, and shallow water was added in some shots so that the changing reflections on the water surface could be captured.

During the shoot, postures and actions were adjusted according to different compositions and atmospheric conditions. In one shot, I stood directly in front of the moon with the white tulle draping down in an inverted V-shape; this angle beautifully displays the texture of the clothing and the overall color tone. There are also a few frames leaning sideways into the white tulle or reaching out to touch the moonlight, actions primarily meant to convey a quiet, cool, and even slightly self-dialogue emotion.

Personally, I prefer the ones of meditating and holding red flowers by the water. In the meditation shot, water ripples refract the reflection of the moon, which, combined with the hand seals, brings a bit more Zen flavor to the entire frame. Meanwhile, the close-up holding red flowers features a remarkably strong color contrast; under the cool-toned blue and white background, the red flowers become the visual landing spot. The pose for holding the flowers was also rather cautious; the water on set was quite cold, but to catch the bouquet floating on the water surface, we still tried repeatedly multiple times.

I am highly grateful to the photographer Li Yang for providing many professional suggestions on lighting props, composition, and camera movements for this set of photos. For instance, how to utilize white tulle to cause an interweaving of light and shadow, and how to use a large aperture combined with the moon background to make the frame cleaner. Actually, on set, the white tulle got wet due to the smoke cakes, making adjustments quite troublesome, but seeing the final output photos, I feel everything was entirely worth it.

For makeup, I deliberately avoided making it too heavy, placing the focus on the correspondence between the gaze and lip color, making the overall face look free of overly heavy cosplay makeup, leaning more toward a natural state of elegance.

The entire set of photos did not include too many complex movements; most were standing quietly, sitting cross-legged, or lying down. I feel these actions are more fitting for the feeling that the character Emerald brings to people; there's no need to overexert, just let the atmosphere, light, and shadow tell the story of this moment. The entire prop arrangement, especially that big moon, played an excellent role in emotional rendering. Without too much modification, just tilting the head up or showing a profile face naturally establishes the frame. I hope everyone can feel the atmosphere of a quiet moonlit night that we wanted to express through this set of photos.
