The moment I put on this outfit and picked up the staff, I truly understood why Astra Yao is a natural-born top star. From the hair accessories to every cut of the hemline, as well as this staff with a ring, every single detail was repeatedly cross-checked with the original design. The white corset dress paired with the red coat offers a strong sense of layering, but what required the most attention during the shoot was actually the fluffiness of the skirt hem; pressing it even slightly would ruin the sense of lightness. The wig styling was done way in advance, ensuring the curves of the bangs and sideburns perfectly matched the character's temperament. To pursue a realistic texture, multiple layers of color were applied to the staff's metallic rings and central axis grain. This studio shoot specifically opted for a clean, pure white background because Astra Yao's look itself is the visual center and doesn't need any extra scene interference. Under white light, the white parts of the costume can reflect light a bit, so the angle of the main light source was adjusted on set to preserve the fabric's texture. I tried two types of poses: one leaning on the staff with one hand, showing a more effortless confidence, and another raising a hand as if releasing some sort of sonic skill. In the final images, I feel this composed yet slightly scrutinizing gaze comes quite close to the state of the character setting. When it comes to cosplay, besides restoring the appearance, what's more important is capturing the contradictory mix of the character's introverted yet flamboyant nature. A lot of thought went into this set from preparation to the actual shoot, and every time I cosplay a character I love, I can't help but dig into more details. A professional makeup artist helped adjust the shadows under my eyes to make them look deeper. Although the whole process was exhausting, seeing the final result brings a huge sense of achievement. Sharing this set of photos, I hope friends who like Zenless Zone Zero and Astra Yao can feel the dedication.
