The patent leather material of this costume has extremely high lighting requirements; the overhead lights at the convention venue easily caused harsh, flat white glares, so this series was shot under side-backlighting. The glass doors formed a natural reflector, giving the seams of the black patent leather a delicate sheen. To recreate the tsundere aura of this 2D character, the makeup emphasized the contrast between a cool fair base and bold red lips, paired with a matching long, straight grayish-silver wig. In fact, putting on this bodysuit was far from easy—once the back zipper was done up, arm mobility was almost completely restricted. Furthermore, patent leather creases easily whenever bending over, so every movement required maintaining a strictly upright, poised posture. To accentuate leg lines, I chose a Black tights outfit paired with red-soled stilettos. Standing for long periods made the soles of my feet ache terribly, and riding the subway on the way back was sheer torture.
When shooting the seated photo, I specifically adjusted the placement of my legs so the sheer black tights would stand out clearly against the light gray floor. This minimalist black bodysuit puts figure control to the ultimate test, leaving no room for extra flab; during preparation, I controlled my diet and exercised diligently to stay in top shape. The choice of stockings was also meticulous—these sheer black tights paired with red-soled heels maximized the elongation of my leg proportions. In the seated shot, the leg lines are the visual center; slight crossing and extension angles required continuous fine-tuning in front of the lens. Keeping knees and toes aligned with the floor while maintaining tension in the calf muscles allowed for slender, glossy leg lines. It was not only physically demanding but a true test of muscle control.
With the convention bustling with people, we used a wide aperture to blur the background, preserving only the cool tones of the glass to better convey the character's aloof and cool demeanor in these Convention photos. Post-processing avoided overly flashy color grading, focusing instead on enhancing shadow details, as the sheen of patent leather is a double-edged sword that can look cheap if mishandled. Lighting was the soul of this set: the backlit window shot utilized strong transmitted light to form a soft rim glow along the edges of the black bodysuit, making it look airy and translucent. The profile reflection shot made use of the glass door reflection to build spatial depth and symmetrical beauty. Throughout the shoot, I kept checking the monitor to ensure the lines looked flattering and elegant without compromising the character's inherent mystery. As for the hair, grayish-silver long straight wigs can easily look dry without proper care, so I applied hair oil beforehand for extra luster. The red lips were the standout feature of the makeup, adding sharp contrast to the cool palette and serving as the key to recreating Mai-senpai's presence. The white collar bow and cuffs also nicely brightened the dark-toned ensemble. These photos are among the first I sorted out after returning from the Guangzhou convention, capturing a state I'm very satisfied with and bringing a wonderful close to this convention trip. Striving to capture the character through expressions and body language made all the hard work worthwhile once I saw the final photos.
