I've finally organized the convention photos from the CICF Expo, and this Misaki cosplay look is one of my personal favorites. Let's start with the costume choice: a short, altered cheongsam in deep blue jacquard adorned with coiled gold dragon embroidery immediately draws the visual focus to the chest and waist, contouring the silhouette beautifully. The teal Chinese frog button at the neckline serves as a subtle highlight, adding a refreshing touch to the deeper overall palette. Layered with black under-shorts and a long striped coat, the outfit blends traditional styling with modern flair, creating a chic, poised vibe. For the gray metallic horn hair ornaments, I adjusted the angles multiple times before securing them in place; paired with the firm black double buns on both sides and long flowing side locks, capturing the character's look was the crucial first step.
To reflect Misaki's relaxed, effortless composure, we experimented with various posing styles during the shoot. As seen in the photos, there are casual standing poses leaning against tree trunks and supports, relaxed sitting poses stretching legs across a fluffy white rug, and a half-kneeling pose gripping the heavy-duty black-and-red prop firearm. I especially loved the feel of holding that gun; since the character exudes mystery and immense authority, introducing a firearm creates an intriguing contrast reminiscent of an undercover mobster or sharp-suited agent. The prop gun carried substantial weight, but that heft made it look authentic and solid on camera rather than like a flimsy plastic toy. Walking around the CICF Expo with it drew plenty of glances from fellow fans and passersby, with several people even coming up to ask where I had it custom-made.
Now about the shooting environment on the day. As everyone knows, the crowd and energy at the CICF Expo were bustling. We picked a shooting spot near a park with ample natural sunlight, perfectly capturing the dappled shadows cast through the trees. The surrounding urban towers, street lamps, lush greenery, and open lawn created a wonderfully pleasant suburban atmosphere. In the shots where I sat on the plush white rug, sunlight filtering through the canopy gave the photos a remarkably translucent clarity. While outdoor summer shoots present a real challenge for makeup longevity and physical stamina—and keeping the wig voluminous in a less breathable outfit was tough—seeing the final photos made every effort worthwhile. As sunlight shifted through the trees, we adjusted camera angles dynamically to make the most of every beam of natural light.
The photographer made brilliant use of backlighting and side lighting, capturing moments with organic precision. I kept my facial makeup crisp and understated, tuning the eye makeup and lip tone to the character's cool demeanor without unnecessary embellishments, focusing primarily on the expressiveness of the gaze. A simple downward glance or eye contact with the camera effortlessly conveyed that "everything is under control" confidence. Particularly in the full-body seated shots, the glossy black finish and striking soles of the Red-bottom high heels were intensely captivating; the collision of red and black, accented by the white fleece rug, brought rich color depth to the scene. During selection and retouching, we preserved natural skin tones and authentic fabric textures rather than pushing extreme contrast or heavy filters, aiming for a true-to-life play of light and shadow.
In truth, Anime cosplay is often not just about replicating garments and wigs, but about weaving the character's spirit into the tangible atmosphere of the convention. The audience at the CICF Expo was wonderfully enthusiastic; though crowds formed around the shoot, everyone was very polite and respectful, allowing me to complete the entire set in a relaxed state. The photos shared today avoid exaggerated color grading, focusing purely on natural light and genuine character expression.
Sharing these CICF Expo convention photos marks a satisfying conclusion to this phase of content creation. Pulling off a look with this much detail—from wig styling and custom headwear to outdoor shooting—demands significant prep work. Yet being able to bring the character in my mind to life before the lens makes every bit of effort worth it. With each shoot, I continually deliberate over nuanced micro-actions and habits, from the exact grip on the firearm to the way I adjust my collar, striving to stay faithful to Blue Archive's canon.
