At the TapTap Play Festival booth, bringing this Chen Qianyu cosplay to life was an absolute thrill! I had prepared quite thoroughly for this appearance, putting in plenty of groundwork from wig styling to garment details. Chen Qianyu's overall aesthetic embodies a capable yet subtly untamed techwear edge, and to capture that aura before the lens, I explored various shooting concepts right across the exhibition hall.
First, regarding the wardrobe: the bright blue cropped jacket serves as the undeniable visual centerpiece, crafted from fabric with a delicate sheen that catches and reflects the venue lighting exquisitely. The jacket has crisp, structured tailoring, and I deliberately kept the zipper half-open to reveal the white high-collar inner layer beneath. Black snap buttons and webbing tape accent the neckline, while the red-and-white lanyard hanging across the chest is instantly striking—reminiscent of a futuristic stethoscope design. The diagonal black harness strap across the left side is printed with white lettering and geometric graphics, amping up the sci-fi techwear vibe. To add textural layering, puffy black sleeve warmers were paired at the forearms, forming a bold contrast against the blue jacket body.
The lower half features a pale-green miniskirt accented with metallic silver three-dimensional hardware and zippers, layered over white mesh undershorts. The cut of this skirt is truly distinctive, presenting rich textural movement while walking. On my legs were tall black heeled boots topped with mint-green and black knee-pad harness straps, cleanly sculpting and elongating the leg lines. Naturally, my favorite detail remains the plush red tail behind me, which swayed gently with every step, breathing vibrant life into the entire silhouette.
Atop my head, the blue-to-pink gradient dragon horns, combined with long straight black hair and blunt bangs, dialed the styling presence up to the maximum. For makeup, pinkish-red tones defined the eye makeup, balanced by noticeable blush to keep my complexion radiant under camera lights. At the festival venue, I took creative advantage of background installations such as red benches, oversized white pot cookware on tables, and illuminated neon signs. Poses included reaching one hand outward toward the camera while resting the other naturally, crossing arms over the chest, and raising both hands in a bright greeting. These postures helped the photographer highlight the garment's tailoring while keeping the photo's visual focus tightly anchored.
Admittedly, the venue lighting and bustling convention crowds posed real challenges during the shoot. We often had to hunt for specific angles to frame out passersby while ensuring no awkward shadows fell across my face. I specifically asked the photographer to capture plenty of full-body shots to showcase the complete coordination. There were naturally a few clumsy moments on set—such as the cape or tail accidentally getting caught, or poses needing micro-adjustments to look organic. Fortunately, the finished selects turned out wonderfully, blending harmoniously into the TapTap Play Festival booth setting with an authentic fourth-wall-breaking presence.
To make this shoot possible, special thanks go to Ranranzi-ya_ for documenting every moment, as well as friends on site who helped adjust the costume. The energy of offline gatherings always fills me with immense motivation; from fitting and live shooting to final retouching, every outfit embodies everyone's collective devotion. More festival returns will follow soon, and I look forward to exploring even more diverse cosplay styles in the future.
