I just saw the final selects: this shoot features Dusk from Arknights in her Jasper Inkstone skin. Ever since first seeing the concept art, I felt it belonged in a raw outdoor shoot. On the day of the shoot, the weather was actually far from ideal with heavy, low-hanging clouds—yet precisely because of this, the water and sky took on a cold blue-gray cast that aligned seamlessly with Dusk's aloof, solitary aura. To chase that unearthly, transcendent mood, we headed to a shoreline crowded with gnarled driftwood and reef rocks. Clambering onto that massive boulder took considerable effort; right along the water's edge on uneven rock surfaces, high heels offered zero traction, so I had to inch forward step by step.
This garment possesses immense layering: a white base tunic, a pale mint-green skirt, overlaid with a teal silk sash and an ink-printed robe. The materials are primarily gossamer tulle and chiffon with a graceful drape, which near the water meant wrestling with gusty gales. Whenever a gust blew through, the billowing sleeves, silk sashes, and skirt hem flew into the air; chaotic as it was, the captured motion was breathtaking. I had to continually guide the fabric with my arms so it wouldn't plaster across my face or snag on branches. The deep teal gloves and branch-like horns are the soul of the look—the tiny white florets on the horns were glued on by hand. Paired with long straight black hair and pointed dragon ears, the character's presence emerged entirely.
While shooting, a funny thought suddenly flashed through my mind: "A Dusk melon grew on the tree!" Standing beside the bare, crooked branches in this outfit made me look like an otherworldly spirit crawling out of the woods, which spurred our absurd joke about slicing open melons on the spot. Goofy as it sounded, that playful contrast made the shoot exceptionally fun. We spent a long time beside that crooked tree just to find a composition that merged subject with scenery. The final frames were a wonderful surprise: the shimmering ripples across the water, the hazy mountain silhouettes beyond, and the rugged, weathered wood created a striking contrast against the silk's fluid grace. Without relying on heavy digital effects, natural daylight and the organic environment carried the emotional weight of the scene.
The makeup steered clear of heavy pigmentation, focusing on defined facial sculpting and deep eye contouring, finished with a subtle crimson lip to lift complexion. Because the wardrobe is dominated by a cool blue-green-white palette, excessive makeup would look muddy. The red cord at the collar was the sole vibrant accent, breaking the sweeping cool tones to give the composition visual breathing room. Portraying a character with abundant fabric and elaborate headpieces always delivers an equal mix of joy and torment: from tailoring and makeup tests to overcoming rough terrain and harsh weather, all for a handful of satisfying frames. Bringing this vision to life outdoors made every bit of the trek worthwhile. Heading home now.
