The cosplay photo shoot for Qingxiao from "Wuthering Waves" took about half a month from preliminary preparation to the final output. The core theme of this photo set is "Smoke and clouds are distant, the heart sword rings," and the mood it conveys is "The sword is hidden in the sheath, and the heart guards the quiet." To accurately present this cold and ethereal texture in the frame, I put a lot of thought into the scene layout and overall color tone.

In terms of scene layout, I chose a large number of Chinese wooden elements. The background is a dark wooden folding screen with geometric hollow-cut patterns, paired with a round wooden backdrop board, creating a sense of spatial layering. Scattered around are black faux Taihu stone ornaments and wooden tatami seating platforms. To make the cool tones richer, I prepared a large amount of blue hydrangeas, and hung plant branches with frost effects and draped blue sheer gauze in the background. The purpose of this arrangement was to visually construct a fairy-land atmosphere resembling an ice and snow marsh, making every frame under the lens full of a tranquil vibe.

In terms of makeup, styling, and costume details, this Qingxiao styling has many points worth discussing. For the wig, I chose an ice-blue long hair. To create the character's sense of layers, I spent quite a bit of time styling it up, and matched it on top of the head with three-dimensional hair accessories resembling ice crystals and exotic beast horns. In terms of makeup, the focus was on the color of the eye makeup. By wearing light blue colored contacts to echo the hair color, the mark on the forehead was also meticulously carved. The costume is an improved ancient style short skirt intertwined with white and ice blue; the Chinese-style stand-up collar and frog buttons look extremely exquisite, and a large amount of translucent sheer gauze material was used at the cuffs and waist. When walking or sitting upright, the sheer gauze flutters with the wind, adding a lot of dynamic aesthetic feeling to the originally static frame.

Regarding the lower body outfit, I chose a pair of white lace-trimmed tights, matched with a pair of white slender high-heeled shoes. For this kind of clothing with ancient style or fantasy colors, many people might choose traditional cloth shoes or flat boots, but I personally think this blue-and-white short skirt hem is very suitable to be paired with white tights. Not only can it play an extending role visually, but it can also make the leg lines appear smoother and slenderer in front of the lens. The white high-heeled shoes increased the tall sense of the overall body shape, allowing the character to maintain an excellent proportion even in static sitting poses.

During the shooting process, the choreography of movements was mainly based on "quietness." The transparent-material staff and pen-shaped props I held in my hand were to better echo the design concepts of "heart sword" and "mortal world." Most of the time I sat on the wooden couch, with my legs crossed or naturally extended, and the hand gestures were a light grip or making some gentle spell-casting postures. The photography adopted a cool color temperature main light source in lighting, and added fill light at the rear-side, so as to highlight the texture of translucent materials, metal accessories, and frost branches. The blue flowers in the foreground were blurred by the large aperture, increasing the depth of the frame, while also better focusing the gaze on the main subject of the figure.

In the post-processing stage, the main focus was to further strengthen the visual impact of the cool tones. Unnecessary miscellaneous colors in the frame were removed, with blue, white, and black as the main base tones, appropriately darkening the wood color of the background to make the character's skin and costume appear more translucent under the cool light. As a cosplay shoot with a fantasy setting, I not only hoped to achieve restoration in costumes and props, but also hoped to express the calmness and detachment of "heart guards the quiet" in the overall atmospheric feel. Every photo output is a process of continuous adjustment and refinement, from light and shadow to composition, from makeup to movements; being able to completely present the picture in my mind is in itself a very satisfying thing.
