I spent the entire day cosplaying Yixuan at IJOY Anime & Game Festival today! The fabric of this costume reflects light intensely under expo illumination; the patent leather texture is crisp and structured, though admittedly completely non-breathable. The moment I put on the white wig, elf ears, and makeup, I felt as if the character had truly come to life. My partner for this shoot was Malatang, as we teamed up to present the twin dynamic. This ensemble flatters body proportions remarkably well, particularly with the cinched waist cut of the jacket.
The costume details are actually quite intricate, featuring numerous zippers and metallic buckles across the jacket, alongside a substantial blue insignia at the collar. The bottom half consists of a glossy black mini skirt trimmed with white ruffles. What pleased me most was this pair of black pantyhose featuring prominent seamlines running down both the front and back; to faithfully recreate the character, we stood barefoot directly on the convention venue floor. It felt a bit unusual at first, but soon we completely forgot about it, even though the floor temperature was rather chilly. The photographer captured several candid shots while Malatang and I sat in the lounge area running lines. Standing back-to-back was primarily meant to showcase the rear design of the outfits and the silhouette of our legs. Because the fabric lacks breathability, walking around the hall easily brings out sweat, making touch-ups and hair adjustments a vital part of the routine.
Cosplaying at conventions is truly a test of physical stamina, especially for characters requiring an upright, poised carriage at all times. Wearing a wig for hours puts tension on the scalp, requiring cooling mist during mid-session breaks to stay refreshed. To ensure great photos, we did our utmost to maintain top form before the camera. The photographer also dedicated great effort to lighting, utilizing creamy background bokeh to highlight our figures and the sleek patent leather texture of the outfits. At times, finding the ideal angle required holding multiple poses consecutively; the patent leather makes subtle rustling sounds when moving, which turned out to be a fun little quirk of this look.
When sitting down, leg contours appear more relaxed, and the pantyhose seams are clearly visible from both front and side profiles. Although stepping barefoot on the cold floor was chilly, enduring that minor discomfort was entirely worth it to keep the visual presentation coherent. To highlight the pairing between the seamed pantyhose and the mini skirt, we spent plenty of time adjusting seated postures so the lens could capture uninterrupted leg lines. The spacing between the thigh rings and the skirt hem was also calculated carefully to maintain overall visual harmony throughout our movements.
Coordinating with Malatang felt effortless; during shooting breaks, we discussed nuances of each pose, such as hand placements and syncing eye contact with the camera's rhythm. Sitting beside her, our combined presence amplified the scene—the ambiance of convention photos relies heavily on partner interaction. From straightening garments to makeup touch-ups and cross-checking each other's wigs, these trivial preparations form the bedrock of fantastic shots. The photographers on site possessed sharp candid instincts, knowing precisely when to press the shutter to freeze our most natural expressions. Under convention lighting, the stark contrast between the black patent leather and the white wig stood out brilliantly.
The true significance of Convention photos lies in documenting the raw, authentic state of the moment. While the finished pictures look effortlessly cool, the sweat behind the scenes, tightly cinched waistbands, and contorted poses to nail the right angles are all part of the craft. The overall look delivered rich visual layering, and the barefoot pantyhose detail introduced a distinctive highlight. Compiling these photos to preserve the memory of cosplaying Yixuan alongside Malatang at IJOY Anime & Game Festival.
