The convention photos from this Guangzhou Overwatch Only are finally organized. I'm cosplaying Juno's Loverwatch skin. Ever since deciding on this styling, I've been pondering how to bring the texture from the game into reality. The wig uses a high-saturation blue-purple color, and during trimming, the layers of the sideburns were deliberately preserved to make it fit the face shape better. The cat-ear headphones on top of the head are the soul of the entire styling, modified by myself using lightweight clay and a headband; the pink inner ear part uses matte paint so that it won't reflect light too exaggeratedly under the venue lights. To maintain the hairstyle, I used plenty of hair wax and styling spray before heading out, fortunately holding its general shape throughout the day without collapsing much.
In terms of makeup, purple-toned contact lenses were used as the base for the eye makeup, thickening the roots of the eyelashes, and the blush was applied relatively heavily to ensure the complexion still shows up on camera despite color loss. Because the venue was quite stuffy and hot, I chose an oil-controlling foundation for the base makeup and carried translucent powder to press and touch up at any time. Regarding the clothing, this yellow short tee was custom-made by a tailor, and the positions of the printed stars and letters were adjusted several times to align with the in-game model. To accentuate the waistline, I shortened the hem of the top and paired it with a black sports bandeau inside, which retains the character's casual feel while avoiding wardrobe malfunctions during larger movements. The skirt is a dark gray pleated skirt with a purple glossy ribbon added to the bottom hem, creating a slight reflective effect when walking. The detail I'm most satisfied with is the purple leather leg ring on the thigh, paired with silver metal chains, producing a slight metal clinking sound when walking, full of detail. The thick-soled Mary Jane shoes on my feet have a heel height of about seven centimeters, and standing all day really made the soles of my feet a bit sore, but to ensure the overall body proportion, I just had to grit my teeth and endure it—next time I definitely need to put a soft cushion in the shoes.
The lighting in the venue is actually quite complex, and the overhead lights easily leave shadows on the face. Moreover, foot traffic at the site is very heavy, making it extremely difficult to find a clean background. The photographer found this black folding ladder as a prop; sitting on it not only allows the leg lines to stretch out more gracefully, but also utilizes the height difference to avoid part of the messy crowd background. When shooting the first photo, I made a peace sign with one hand and naturally extended the other, wanting to create that lively and playful feel of Juno. The subsequent photos incorporated pointing gestures towards the camera, intentionally adding some stage presence with a more focused gaze. The skin exposure of this outfit is actually quite high, and the knitted sleeves on the arms add some visual weight so the upper body doesn't look too thin. Communication with the photographer during the shoot is also very important, such as the direction of the fingers and the height of the shoulders; with slight adjustments, the final photo results will differ significantly.
I met many fellow players on-site, and everyone chatted about in-game operations and skin texture, creating a wonderful atmosphere. As someone who frequently cosplays game characters, meeting audience members who understand the character's background at an exhibition is the most fulfilling moment. This time, a lot of thought went into the details of the makeup and styling, such as the collar on the neck, the white belt around the waist, and that star pendant, all of which were pieced together bit by bit by searching for materials everywhere. Although convention photos are constrained by the environment, being able to restore these elements and present a satisfying effect in front of the camera makes all the previous hard work worthwhile.
