Shooting this Zenless Zone Zero Nangong Yu cosplay outfit outdoors in a perceived temperature of over 30 degrees Celsius was quite a test of stamina and condition. Regarding the costume, the patchwork design of this black-and-purple sailor suit actually has a great sense of layering. The most troublesome part was the pair of white mechanical wings on the back. Since the shooting location was an open riverside wooden boardwalk where the river wind was quite strong, the wings and the complex purple-black multi-pointed halo on the head needed frequent adjustments to ensure they didn't tilt in the lens. As for the hairstyle, the black twin tails had pink highlights, a detail that reflects beautifully under the sunlight.
The weather on the shooting day was great, sunny with few clouds. The photographer specifically utilized the striking large orange industrial gantry crane in the background as a distant view, combined with the riverside skyline, creating an interesting clash between the wasteland techwear style setting and the modern urban industrial scene. This composition method of integrating a 2D character into a 3D realistic environment highlights the character's state very well. The glass railings by the river and the texture of the wooden floor also blend naturally into the frames, enhancing the texture of the entire photo set.
In terms of pose design, I tried several different expressions today. There were relaxed poses leaning against the fence, as well as playful movements pretending to adjust the arm sleeves. The half-body close-up shot focused on highlighting the layers of the makeup. Overall, my condition today was quite on point, and the texture feedback of the props as well as the drape of the costume showed different visual effects under both backlight and frontlight. Due to the strong wind, capturing dynamic moments through outdoor photography required a faster shutter speed; the success of this photo set is truly inseparable from the tacit cooperation with the photographer. The wide venue allowed for plenty of space to move, which greatly helped the success rate of the shots. I hope to have the opportunity to challenge other complex characters from Zenless Zone Zero in the future.
