[Iuno cosplay] Mid-Autumn Adventure in the Chinese-style ACG Illusion of Wuthering Waves

Taking advantage of the Mid-Autumn Festival, I brought this Chinese-style ACG styling of Iuno from Wuthering Waves into a real-scene shoot. The set design took inspiration from Chinese courtyards and bamboo groves, utilizing lush green bamboo as the backdrop wall, interwoven with pink blossoms and lotus leaves, with the ground draped in light-toned sheer tulle. To enhance the ethereal, fairy-like ambiance, smoke pellets and fog machines were used on set to craft a misty water-vapor effect, giving the entire frame dense, atmospheric layers.

The garment details deserve close attention. This ensemble uses deep blue and white as its primary palette, accented by golden embroidery and Chinese frog closures. The top features a white base with a teardrop keyhole cut-out at the chest, a deep blue trimmed neckline, golden floral frog buttons, and blue beaded tassels. The outer wrap has wide sleeves in deep blue, with delicate gold thread patterns running along the fabric and edges; when walking or resting my arms, the golden tassels swayed gently, lending an exquisite texture. The bottom is a matching short skirt edged with gold trim. The wig transitions smoothly from deep blue to light blue, styled into symmetrical twin odango buns tied with white fluffy pom-poms and gold ribbon bows. Long side tendrils and braids frame the cheeks naturally, which, paired with blue contact lenses and soft pink blush, drew the look much closer to the essence of a 2D character.

Since the concept called for Barefoot cosplay seated on fabric, high demands were placed on leg lines and posture control. The seated posture could not be overly rigid nor completely slack; the back and waist needed to stay upright and poised so that whether facing the lens head-on or from an angle, the garment structure and body proportions wouldn't lose form. In the first shot, I looked directly into the camera, touching the hair ornament near my cheek with one hand while letting the other rest naturally on my leg, with legs stretched forward to fully display the outfit's architecture and character state. The side-angle shot shifted my weight slightly to one side, hands clasped in front, with my gaze trailing over my shoulder to emphasize the graceful drape of the garment's profile and the wig's dimensional layers.

To tie in with Mid-Autumn Festival photography elements, I designed a small gesture involving eating pastries. My right hand held a mooncake-like pastry while my left fingered the golden tassel hanging from the hair accessory, looking straight into the lens. This motion brought liveliness to my facial expressions without feeling static. Another shot captured a playful wink to convey a relaxed, cheerful mood. Because Iuno has a distinct personality, I strove to strike a balance between cool aloofness and spirited liveliness in my gaze and micro-expressions.

The entire shoot went quite smoothly, with most time dedicated to early set construction, hair, and makeup styling. From setting the wig and arranging the costume to dialing in the fog density, every stage required tight supervision. Because the background bamboo and lotus leaves carried vivid colors, we used soft front key lighting combined with side rim lights, preserving natural skin texture while catching subtle glints off the golden embroidery. Even though sitting barefoot on mist-dampened fabric felt rather chilly, the resulting frames met our standards completely. Bringing my imagination of this character and setting to life on Mid-Autumn day was truly a rewarding achievement.
