Xiaoduni flies up in the frame, and the tray in hand still carries the fragrance of freshly brewed tea. This maid outfit studio photoshoot of Chisa from Wuthering Waves is a stock piece that has been kept at the bottom of the chest for a long time. The reason I chose to bring this look out again this time is mainly because the costume details of the character design are indeed very abundant; the designer's ingenuity can be seen in every spot, and I really wanted to restore that sweet yet slightly playful atmosphere in front of the lens.
The entire outfit is dominated by deep chocolate and cream white. The white ruffled apron is adorned with floral pattern embroidery that has a strong handcrafted feel, forming a visual layer contrast with the brown faux-leather small waist pouch at the waist. A plump brown bear plush keychain also hangs on the waist pouch, looking like it could be pulled off and squeezed at any time. There are red criss-cross laces at the chest, embellished with small wooden buttons, and the neckline features a white lace collar and a prominent red bow tie. The lace white-edged animal ear headwear on top of the head is paired with thin red ribbons, cooperating with the shoulder-length long straight hair to visually generate a sense of harmony belonging to an anime character.
This shoot specially prepared a Xiaoduni plush toy with a round, big-eyed look, and the process of tossing and catching it was a fun highlight of the shoot. To capture the doll's sense of suspension in the air, photographer Teacher Mubai needed to precisely catch that split-second shutter. Tossing the doll and holding the tray steady—these movements required a balance of the body's center of gravity. Fortunately, the multi-layered ruffled design within the skirt hem combined with the bloomers underneath prevented any wardrobe malfunctions during standing and sitting movements, instead increasing the fluffiness of the dress. The deep brown vintage Mary Jane shoes on the feet, paired with matching white lace socks, neither steal the spotlight nor fail to frame the leg lines to look more slender.
The main theme of the studio photoshoot is a nude pink background; this warm background color close to skin tone serves as an excellent base for contrasting colors. The lighting wasn't set too harsh; instead, a softbox was used as the main light source, so the texture of the skirt fabric and the layered edges of the white collar are retained very clearly, showing no overly stark shadows even when performing the action of passing out the saucer toward the camera. Because the hairstyle is a relatively heavy and straight long black hair, during photography I needed to constantly pay attention to any splitting of the bangs, ensuring it always maintained a neat, straight-cut state.
Regarding the makeup, to fit the character temperament this time, the contouring of the eye makeup was intentionally enhanced, making the gaze look more spirited and clear, preventing a gloomy overlapping effect with the heavy black hair. As can be seen from the photos, whether sitting or standing while holding the tray, the skirt's silhouette could maintain a great shape, thanks to the petticoat framework of the lining. Looking at the exported photos, the overall state basically met the expectations of my ideal image of Chisa—one that possesses a sense of service yet leaks a quirky, mischievous aura. Looking back at these photos, although some time has passed since the shoot, that experience of instantly getting into character upon putting on a specific character's clothes is still evoked whenever scrutinizing each finished photo. The benefit of a studio shoot lies in being undisturbed by outdoor weather and lighting; one can fully focus attention on the scheduling of actions and the mastering of expressions, calmly completing every freeze-frame.
