For this Identity V Heartbeat Carnival shoot, I started preparing this Gardener outfit well in advance. Wanting to fit the carnival's vintage yet fairytale-like atmosphere, I ultimately chose a Lolita-style dress crafted primarily from deep blue velvet.

The garment's craftsmanship is remarkably meticulous: the white blouse features tiered ruffle frills, complemented by pearl embellishments at the neckline and a hand-sewn floral bonnet, faithfully recreating that exquisite pastoral aesthetic I had envisioned.

On the day of the shoot, the venue was set in an indoor space with large floor-to-ceiling windows, accented by classic wooden furniture, white plaster busts, and afternoon tea treats on the table. The surroundings were tranquil with perfect lighting. While assembling the look, the bonnet demanded the most effort—adorned with abundant blue-and-white silk flowers and draping pearl chains, it required extensive inner structural reinforcement to ensure stability without looking visually weighed down. Paired with deep blue velvet gloves and ruffle-trimmed White stockings, the ensemble presented a cohesive color palette rich in depth.

I personally adored the makeup for this set. Bright blue contact lenses highlighted the eyes, while blush swept beneath the eyes paired with delicate faux freckles injected a touch of playful charm. Echoing the carnival theme, the makeup bypassed sharp contouring in favor of soft, tender sweetness. During the session, I explored various postures, such as lifting the skirt hem while leaning gently forward, or cradling a flower bucket overflowing with blue hydrangeas. Velvet fabric reflects a delicate sheen under natural light but also easily absorbs illumination, so the photographer patiently calibrated light sources to capture the rich textural luster of the fabric.

The experience wasn't quite as effortless as it looked—navigating multiple heavy layers alongside substantial headwear while holding poses tested physical stamina. Yet seeing the final images made every effort worthwhile. Beyond just participating in an event, this felt like bringing an artistic experiment to life. At the carnival venue, meeting fellow fans who share a passion for ACG culture and swapping notes on shoots and prop crafting was wonderful. For players who love Identity V and the Gardener, joining the Heartbeat Carnival in this manner is truly a unique journey. I hope to experiment with even more varied aesthetics and keep documenting these precious memories. From crafting props to scouting locations, every step was fueled by genuine love for the character and work. Despite some exhaustion, sharing the joy of cosplay in such a heartwarming atmosphere was deeply fulfilling. That is why I remain passionate about cosplay—it lets me step away from daily life, step into beloved characters, and connect with kindred spirits.
