[Ganyu Cosplay] Embracing Frost and Snow: Genshin Impact Convention Photos Log

The theme for these Convention photos is "Embracing Frost and Snow." Photographer Mengmeng and I communicated beforehand about capturing that chilly, snow-swept atmosphere, and high-contrast overhead lighting on-site delivered just that, with post-processed falling snow and ice crystal effects bringing the ambience to life. Preparing this Ganyu Cosplay ensemble involved considerable effort: the black off-the-shoulder top fit closely, while the custom golden bell at the neckline was slightly heavier than the original design, producing a satisfying soft clink when walking. The most challenging aspect was the oversized detached sleeves—a splice of silver-white and blue featuring metallic reflective coating, rhinestones, and sequins. Though gorgeous, they snagged easily, demanding careful handling when putting them on or taking them off.

For the lower body, I opted for matte elastic black tights for this Stockings cosplay; because of the gold filigree print on the outer thigh, overly sheer or glossy stockings would blur the print's crisp borders, requiring extensive testing to find the perfect opacity. The white and blue high-heeled shoes were modified by a cobbler with custom curved heels; while slightly unstable for walking, enduring it was necessary for character fidelity.

We captured five distinct poses throughout the session. The first crouching hand gesture aimed for a playful tone; though resting on my elbow was tiring, it came out lively. The second side-seated pose was suggested by the photographer to simultaneously highlight the sleeve drape and leg contours while gazing directly into the lens for a storytelling feel—one of my personal favorites. The third standing pose served as a classic showcase for the Blue-haired archer, highlighting the 3D-printed, hand-painted bow whose gold filigree and blue gradient took multiple iterations to perfect, though drawing the bowstring required caution to avoid snapping hands. The fourth shot drawing and aiming the bow demanded intense core control to keep the weapon steady while maintaining a focused yet relaxed expression, taking multiple takes to land a natural look. Finally, the kneeling shot holding a snowball provided a serene closing moment—eyes closed with snowflakes dusting my shoulders, capturing a peaceful breather after exhaustion.

As for the venue, we set up a makeshift booth in a corner of a subterranean exhibition hall surrounded by dense light stands, reflectors, and flag boards amidst bustling crowds. Yet the photographer grabbed quick windows when ambient noise settled to snap away frantically. The scattered snow on the ground was artificial snow powder, requiring extensive cleanup afterward, but the fluttering effect on camera was worth every bit of trouble. In post-editing, we avoided over-smoothing skin to preserve authentic makeup texture; purple-pink contact lenses caught a faint iridescent shimmer under overhead lighting, harmonizing beautifully with the blue hair styling.

Shooting Convention photos tests one's ability to quickly enter character within limited time and lighting conditions. Although the outfit felt constricting and sleeve covers drifted, striking a pose alongside props and backdrops immediately drew me into the character's aura. Completing a heavy cosplay build always tests endurance, yet seeing snowflakes settle on hair strands in the final images validates every effort.
