The pre-production for this Momoka Hanyuu cosplay photoshoot from Arknights was quite extensive. To faithfully bring out the silhouette of this character from Arknights, the wig was chosen in a bright orange tone. The stylist repeatedly adjusted the inner wire framework of the twin looping crown buns to ensure they held their dimensional arc throughout the shoot. The wispy bangs across the forehead were lightly textured, flanked by elongated locks on either side, which, paired with the elf ears and white branch-shaped antler headpieces, made the head silhouette instantly recognizable.
For makeup, I used reddish-brown eyeshadow to sculpt and deepen the eye contours, wearing soft pink-toned contact lenses and sweeping pronounced rouge across the cheeks. The base makeup was kept clear and porcelain-fair, contrasted by a deeper crimson lip tint to evoke a presence that feels aloof yet subtly bewitching.
The wardrobe details deserve special mention on their own. The color scheme flows with a gradient of pink and crimson, accented by white ruffled trim along the neckline and expansive, voluminous bell sleeves. The garment's surface features intricate cascading pleats and sheer gossamer layers, while the bust and waist are embellished with red diamond-lattice grid patterns. Semi-translucent ornaments reminiscent of delicate goldfish motif fins fan out from the waist, swaying naturally along with the skirt in motion. To showcase the airy lightness of the attire, I wore a petticoat beneath for structured support.
The shoot was held at Taotao Studio, where the traditional Japanese interior setup was remarkably complete: polished wooden floors, shoji sliding screens, and glowing floor lanterns, which, accompanied by warm amber lighting, dialed the atmospheric immersion to the max. The studio was also decorated with blooming pink sakura branches; blurring the foreground blossoms through a wide aperture lent phenomenal depth of field. A crimson carp lantern suspended on the right echoed the vivid shades of the gown.
Throughout the session, lighting was paramount to defining tactile quality. The photographer harnessed the warm glow of the lanterns and angled rim-backlighting across my shoulders and back, beautifully carving out the textile tiers and the contours of my spine. To showcase the garment's strengths, we explored multiple poses: standing stances accentuated the sweeping sleeves and expansive hem, while in the over-the-shoulder glance, I loosened the back closure slightly to pair with a dainty sake cup held in hand, locking eyes with the lens to radiate a poised yet enigmatic presence. The floor-seated pose fanned out the layered skirt among fallen cherry blossoms, cultivating a quiet, subtly melancholic ambiance. The entire shoot unfolded seamlessly, with photographer Qimao demonstrating razor-sharp mastery over the lens.
Bringing this character to life was a real test of presence and silhouette control, as voluminous fabric tiers and elaborate headwear can easily look bulky; however, by fine-tuning waistlines and camera angles, the final result turned out deeply satisfying. This harmonious fusion of traditional wa-style aesthetics and fantasy flourishes looks particularly breathtaking in motion.
