Shooting this client set for Black Swan took a tremendous amount of care in faithfully recreating the costume and props. The premise of being a Memokeeper of the Garden of Recollection carries an intense, intrinsic mystique, so for makeup, I deliberately enhanced the depth of the eye look—blending multi-toned eyeshadows to create that dreamy, alluring gaze capable of seeing straight through memories. For hair, I chose a silver-purple gradient wig and trimmed crisp hime-cut side locks close to the face to beautifully frame my profile. The costume features a form-fitting blue-and-black spliced silhouette, where the cross motif on the chest and the draped hooded veil serve as the true soul of the look. To achieve clean, figure-hugging contours without adding bulk, I layered seamless, snug base garments underneath. For the lower half, the over-the-knee leather boots feature gilded filigree; pairing them with sheer Black stockings added subtle dimension and texture under the lights, infusing just the right touch of mature allure essential to Black Swan.
The photoshoot was set in a cyberpunk-inspired gaming lounge, creating an enchanting clash against Black Swan's classical, arcane aesthetic. The four monitor screens in the background displaying cosmic starry nebulae and the Astral Express felt like a nod to her drifting across a sea of memories. The ambient blue lighting blended flawlessly with the cold tones of the costume. In terms of posing, I strove to embody her calm, composed, unhurried demeanor as a diviner.
The reclining pose in Photo 2 is one of my personal favorites from this set. To create an elongated, graceful line, my core and lower back had to stay firmly engaged, keeping my legs staggered at differing heights; paired with the sharp contour of high heels, it made the overall frame look remarkably statuesque. Although the tarot cards in hand weren't fully displayed, the delicate hand positioning was tailored to divination. In other shots seated on the chair or perched on the edge of the desk, I experimented with direct eye contact as well as looking subtly downward into the lens, striving to convey that chilling aura of 'I have already read your memories.'
From a technical perspective, this styling involves an immense number of fine details. The tonal jacquard patterns along the veil's edge, the metal buckles on the garments, and the stitched seamwork of the leather boots all required precise light placement to control specular reflections. The long detached sleeves and gloves used specialized fabrics that got quite stuffy throughout the lengthy shoot, but seeing the final visual texture made it entirely worthwhile. With numerous straps and cutout accents across the costume, maintaining disciplined posture was essential to ensure every line fell into place flawlessly. The entire process was a continuous calibration of angles to capture the moments that best resonated with the character's soul, translating 2D design into vivid 3D reality. Looking at those intertwined plays of light and shadow in the final edits, every ounce of hard work was truly rewarded.
