For the styling, we gravitated toward a coordinated palette of blush pinks. I wore a cropped pink front-opening capelet trimmed along the collar and cuffs with thick, plush white fur, layered over a light blue cross-collar blouse and an amber-orange maxi skirt. My bestie donned a longline pink Hanfu overcoat, likewise edged in soft fur trim, achieving visual unity while preserving our individual styles.
We invested immense dedication into our Hanfu makeup and styling. My hair was styled into a classic Tang-inspired high coiffure crowned with a gilded headdress and yellow floral pins, with soft face-framing fringe curving along the temples. My bestie wore an all-updo adorned with long dangling tassel hairpins laced with pearls and delicate pink blossoms. To echo the winter ambiance, our makeup emphasized an ethereal porcelain base and tender pink blush, paired with natural warm-toned eye makeup to project a gentle, graceful, and sweet demeanour.
The location was set in an antique courtyard framed by traditional heritage architecture. Weathered timber pillars, bluestone stairs, and intricately carved stone balustrades served as picturesque backdrops. We curated evocative props including crimson prayer plaques, a tricolor hydrangea bouquet of soft blues, whites, and pinks, as well as a thread-bound blue tome and an ink calligraphy brush. The opening frame features us standing before a wooden trellis draped in blessing plaques; I hold a circular plush-trimmed hoop while looking into the lens—a poised, centered two-shot that works seamlessly as the cover image.
Throughout the session, the priority was documenting organic, intimate sisterly interactions. In one frame seated by a rustic wooden table, I cradle the blue thread-bound book while my bestie leans against my shoulder holding the calligraphy brush, gazing down at the calligraphy. In another shot, we clasp hands strolling up the stone stairs, skirts billowing in the gentle winter breeze as candid burst shots imbued the scene with vibrant vitality. For a dual-subject Ancient style portrait, sartorial harmony is essential; choosing garments sharing a harmonious color scheme with distinct silhouettes delivers unity with rich visual layering. Preparing props that fit the narrative—such as vintage tomes, circular fans, and seasonal floral sprigs—eases on-camera tension naturally. Relying on soft natural daylight during the day renders skin textures far more delicately. Traditional style Hanfu inherently carries an elegant, enveloping silhouette, and adding plush fur collars for winter not only wards off the chill, but also infuses a wonderfully cozy, languid winter warmth.
