The intricate design of this dark combat maid outfit for Zenless Zone Zero's Shark girl cosplay was even more complex than I anticipated—putting together the black leather straps, metal studs, and chains took quite some time. Topped off with the white ruffled headband accented by black spiked spikes, a black wig featuring crimson under-dye, and red contact lenses, the character's cold, detached aura came through immediately.
The giant tri-color (black, white, and red) mechanical weapon in my hands was the centerpiece of the shoot. It was not only massive in scale but had serious weight to it. To execute steady swings and defensive poses before the lens, I made sure to warm up my shoulders and neck beforehand. In the first crouched sequence, I dropped to one knee, bracing one hand on the floor while gripping the weapon with the other. The photographer shot from a low upward angle, perfectly aligned with the red neon light strips and industrial fans in the background to push that cyberpunk combat tension to the absolute max. Because the prop was heavy, every freeze-frame required serious core engagement to keep my arms from shaking, but the razor-sharp silhouette in the final shots made it well worth the effort.
To capture varying moods, we shifted across several different set pieces. Moving around in this outfit, the black stockings paired with red block-heeled Mary Janes sculpted an elongated, striking leg line. One set was shot perched on a black industrial barstool, where I crossed my legs to flip through a newspaper with a lollipop resting nearby—this lazy demeanor sparked a delightful contrast against the hardcore tactical gear. I also stepped atop a black tire for a few poses, resting both hands on the weapon and locking eyes with the camera while the photographer used an industrial fan blade as a foreground element, yielding an astonishing sense of spatial depth.
The entire shoot was an absolute pleasure; the contrasting warm-and-cool red and black lighting played across the fabric and mechanical surfaces with exceptional texture. Working as a collaborative mutual-TFP shoot, the photographer and I maintained seamless synergy across posing and lighting design. From early costume fittings and wig sculpting to dynamically refining poses to suit each corner of the set, we gave our all to recreate that distinct blend of sharp edge and indolent charm. The entire set was shot with wide apertures, beautifully melting away background wire mesh and scattered tires to keep the character and weapon in crisp focus. Creating such an immersive anime-style photo set delivers genuine fulfillment with every click of the shutter, and I cannot wait to tackle even more ambitious actions and locations next time.
