[Robin and Sunday Cosplay] Penacony's Spring Star Rail Reenacted Under the Cherry Blossom Trees

This shoot features a set of fan-made cosplay photos of Robin and Sunday from Honkai: Star Rail. The entire styling, from wig trimming to the sewing of costume details and the polishing of accessories, took a long time to prepare. Although I am already very familiar with the character designs, actually bringing every stitch and thread into physical props was still highly challenging. Robin's headpiece is a very thin golden halo; to give it a stable floating sensation on-site without looking heavy, we adjusted the supporting frame several times. As for that blue-purple gradient wig with light pink hair ends, a tremendous amount of thought went into the braiding on top and the layered trimming on both sides to recreate the character's lightweight and flowing texture. For the costume, we chose a combination of glossy pearl white tulle and deep purple satin horizontal bands, embellished with a large number of pearl beads of varying sizes along the edges. Paired with a black lace choker and a thin silver chain around the neck, it attempts to capture that gorgeous and holy temperament.

Sunday's look delivers a completely different vibe—the iconic silver-gray wig paired with a golden pointed star-crown headpiece, and the stiff coat provides an excellent 3D tailoring effect. The white patchwork fabric of the coat, combined with an aqua blue lining, features a prominent diamond-shaped badge on the chest that we specially ordered from a factory as a metal piece. Complemented by star-shaped metal accessories on the collar and costume edges, it delivers a highly commanding, wise, and capable visual impression. The day of the shoot was actually quite hectic; the outdoor spring light changed rapidly, and since the shooting location was right in the middle of the cherry blossom peak, the scenery was beautiful but tourists were numerous. We found a quiet spot on a slope in the park. The photographer's early location scouting saved us a lot of trouble, utilizing forced perspective and a shallow depth of field to avoid pedestrians in the background.

During the shoot, we mainly wanted to express a lighthearted and tacit interactive relationship. For instance, that set of hand-holding actions wasn't just a simple pose; we were actually walking along the stone path, and the photographer captured those moments of natural forward movement during burst shots. The sunlight was excellent on the day of the shoot, creating beautiful highlights on the wigs and metal headpieces. Although the sunlight was glaring, it ensured the three-dimensional clarity of our facial contours. Robin's white tulle costume was highly prone to overexposure under the harsh outdoor light, so we put some effort into controlling the highlights and shadows during post-processing; fortunately, the lightweight effect of the tulle was preserved. I especially love the angle of looking back with a lowered head, because the blurred foreground gives the frame a powerful sense of narrative.

Caring for this costume on a daily basis is actually quite a hassle, especially the star-crown on the head and those fragile small metal decorations, which all need to be wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap when putting them into the suitcase. However, seeing that bright, spring-vibrant, and somewhat fantasy-styled effect in the finished photos makes me feel that all the time spent staying up late with needles, threads, and hot melt glue to craft the accessories was completely worth it. On the day of the shoot, a few cherry blossom petals even drifted onto my shoulders; though they fell off instantly, that atmosphere truly fit the character's vibe in the original work. Meeting a friend during a trip who can complete this kind of themed shoot together is also an incredibly rare thing. Throughout the exchange process, everyone was brainstorming ways to make the styling more accurate and the composition more dynamic. The bokeh spots and colors in the finished photos carry a powerful breath of spring, which is exactly the clear, translucent anime-style photography style I have always pursued.
