Day 2 of CPG 08 portraying Robin was a deeply fulfilling cosplay experience, backed by extensive preparation specifically for this Honkai: Star Rail design.
The soft lilac wig required meticulous layering and generous amounts of hairspray to achieve a natural, sweeping curve. The golden halo overhead and the white feathered wings on my back were the heaviest components; the wing harness rested snugly against my shoulder blades, requiring steady breathing while navigating the crowded convention floor. Before heading out, I spent considerable time adjusting every mounting point at my accommodation to ensure nothing wobbled while walking and to prevent bumping into passersby.
For makeup, I used gentle lavender eyeshadow with subtly winged eyeliner, paired with light violet contacts to capture her serene gaze. The white-and-purple dress combined sheer tulle with satin paneling; the pearl necklace and sheer collar neckline demanded a flawless fit, secured in place with numerous safety pins.
Given the dense crowds at the convention, finding reflective, clean spots to shoot was tough. I captured several photos in front of full-length mirrors and glass walls, which provided clean ambient lighting that harmonized with the dress's cool palette. Pulling off this full ensemble on camera demanded strong posture control—keeping the waist engaged throughout shooting to support the wings and dress silhouette.
While portraying Robin, I kept her comforting presence in mind: 'If I can stop one heart from breaking' truly defines her essence. Thus, beyond posing, I deliberately paced my steps on the convention floor to convey a calm, gentle composure. Immersive roleplay like this is one of the most rewarding aspects of anime convention cosplay. The white and lavender fabrics shine exceptionally under clean lighting, and returning to the hotel with my wig and pearl accessories intact brought immense satisfaction after a tiring day.
