[Mobius cosplay] Year of the Snake Lunar New Year Qipao: Charming Moments of Mobius

Throughout the shooting process for this Lunar New Year Qipao photo set of Mobius, there was quite a difference between the preparatory concept and actual execution. Initially, shooting a Qipao was chosen to tie into the specific festive theme of the Year of the Snake without losing the character's original essence. Ultimately, a tight-fitting black Qipao style was selected, accented with vivid green serpentine embroidery and lines—both recreating the character's signature green motif and integrating traditional Chinese garment characteristics.

The hair and makeup required considerable effort. To make the wig color look more natural, I used long curly hair with subtle gradient tips. For makeup, I deliberately applied eyeshadow in reddish-pink tones, creating a striking warm-cool contrast against the light green hair color. The elf ears not only flattered my face shape but also enhanced the character's non-human aura. The garment's cut fit the silhouette snugly, especially the waist cutouts and leg straps, which beautifully accentuated body proportions. The pairing of long gloves and high heels balanced the visual weight between the upper and lower body. Regrettably, putting on the tall boots was genuinely tedious, and shifting poses back and forth during the shoot easily created creases, but for the final outcome, these minor struggles were worth enduring.

The lighting on set avoided flat illumination, instead using hard lights and rim/side backlighting to let highlights fall across the shoulders and hair strands while keeping large background areas darkened. This highlighted the mysterious demeanor of Mobius without letting the background overpower the subject. For props, a Chinese wooden birdcage was held in hand to create an intriguing contrast, making the gestures more dynamic. Whether half-kneeling on the daybed looking back, reclining sideways on the plush mat, or standing on one leg holding the cage, every composition aimed to elongate body contours and keep the movements effortless yet elegant. The entire shoot was demanding with frequent posing adjustments, but achieving photos with this presence brought a tremendous sense of accomplishment.
